To see if the Town will vote to amend the General Bylaws of the Town of Swampscott by striking out Chapters 1, 2a, 2b, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 and amendments thereto now in force and effect and adopt in their place new General Bylaws as prepared by the committee appointed to revise and codify the Bylaws of the Town, or take any action relative thereto.

Article 43. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to execute a new lease with the Leon E. Abbott Post No. 57 American Legion Building Association, for a term of five (5) years from April 6, 1957, and appro- priate the necessary money therefor or take any action relative thereto.

Article 44. To see whether the Town acting pursuant to Section 7 of Chapter 550 of the Acts of 1952 will empower the Swampscott Housing Authority to erect a new housing project, namely, a Housing Project for Elderly Persons, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 667 of Massachusetts Acts of 1954, and acts in amendment thereof and in addition thereto.

Article 45. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the School Committee to establish and maintain State-aided vocational education in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 74, General Laws, and Acts amendatory thereto, or dependent thereon, or take any action relative thereto.

Article 46. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Moderator to appoint a committee to investigate the question of land acquisition for a play area at the Hadley School, said committee to report at the next Annual Town Meeting, and to appropriate the sum of $100 therefor or take any action relative thereto.

Article 47. To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Chapter 374 Acts of 1956 (now Section 85J, Chapter 32 of the General Laws of Massachu- setts) giving a policeman or fireman eligible for superannuation retirement the right to elect at time of retirement an option for payment of his pension in full to him or a lesser amount with provision that one half of the yearly amount of such lesser pension shall be continued during the lifetime of and paid to his widow.

Article 48. To see if the Town will vote to enclose the brook on the westerly and easterly sides of Laurel Road, as follows:


(1) From the westerly end of the Laurel Road culvert, a distance of about 100 feet, to the high school site.


(2) From the easterly end of the Laurel Road culvert, a distance of about 180' to the existing 21/2' x 5' Nason Road culvert, relocating the existing easement and locating the new culvert according to the present position of said brook.

To see if the Town will accept the provisions of Chapter 401 Acts of 1956 which extends to civil defense volunteer unpaid auxiliary firemen and police and other public protection units the laws applicable to municipal employees for indemnification of damages sustained through operation of publicly owned vehicles.

Article 51. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum of money, and raise the same by borrowing or otherwise, to be paid to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for proposed dredging work to be done at Fishermen's Beach under the provisions of Chapter 91 of the General Laws, and authorize the Board of Selectmen to do any and all things necessary to accomplish said project; or take any action relative thereto.

Article 52. To see if the Town will assume liability in the manner provided by Section 29 of Chapter 91 of the General Laws, as amended by Chapters 516 and 524, Acts of 1950, for all damages that may be incurred by work to be performed by the Department of Public Works of Massachusetts for the improvement, development maintenance, and protection of tidal and non-tidal rivers and streams, harbors, tide- waters, foreshores and shores along a public beach outside of Boston Harbor, includ- ing the Merrimack and Connecticut Rivers, in accordance with Section II of Chapter 91 of the General Laws, and authorize the Selectmen to execute and deliver a bond of indemnity therefor to the Commonwealth.

Article 53. To see if the Town will vote to purchase a new car for the Chief of Fire Department to replace the present car and to appropriate the necessary money therefor or take any action relative thereto.

To see if the Town will vote to designate as the Central Fire Station site that portion of the so-called Town Administration Building land on Burrill Street adjacent to the Library, as shown on sheet 1, dated December 29, 1955, prepared by David J. Article 56. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to enter into a restrictive agreement with Louis H. Salvage concerning the installation of a fifteen-inch trunk line sewer, and a drain; the erection of buildings and the type of construction in connection with the proposed project on land owned by Louis H. Salvage on Paradise Road, Swampscott, or take any action relative thereto.

Article 57. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Public Works to accept a grant of easement for the installation of a fifteen-inch trunk line sewer through the property of the Tedesco Country Club from Salem Street to the Southerly boundary of the land of Louis H. Salvage and authorize the Board of Public Works to approve plans and specifications for and supervise the installation of a fifteen-inch trunk line sewer from the intersection of Stanley Road and Salem Street westerly on Salem Street a distance of approximately 620 feet, then through the said easement on land of the Tedesco Country Club a distance of approximately 1008 feet to land of Louis H. Salvage, on condition that all costs of the installation of the said fifteen-inch trunk line sewer shall be paid for by the said Louis H. Salvage and that the Town shall be held harmless from all claims of every nature and description arising out of the construction of the said fifteen-inch trunk line sewer and that upon completion of the said fifteen-inch trunk line sewer, it shall become the property of the Town of Swampscott, or take any action relative thereto .

Article 58. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Public Works to accept the grant of a drain easement through land of the Tedesco Country Club from Salem Street to the southerly bound of land owned by Louis H. Salvage or take any action relative thereto.

Article 59. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Public Works to accept the grant of an easement for sewer and drain purposes over the land of Louis H.
