SPECIAL TOWN MEETING.
COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS.
NORFOLK, SS. To either of the constables of the Town of Weymouth in said County, GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of Weymouth aforesaid, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at Clapp's Hall, in said town, on Saturday, the 13th day of July, instant, at 7.45 o'clock in the evening, then and there, on the petition of W. W. Burke and nine others, to act upon articles numbered from one to eight, inclusive, viz :
Article 1. To choose a moderator.
Art. 2. To see if the town will vote to instruct the selectmen to call meetings of the voters in each of the several precincts in the town, for the purpose of bringing in their ballots upon the follow- ing question, namely : Is it expedient for the town to exercise the authority conferred in Section 1 of Chapter 370 of the Acts and Resolves of the year 1891, being an act to enable cities and towns to manufacture and distribute gas and electricity ?
Art. 3. To see if the town will raise and appropriate the sum of $10,000, or any part thereof, to be expended upon the high- ways in addition to the sum appropriated at the annual meeting.
Art. 4. To see if the town will appoint five workingmen, one from each ward, to superintend the expenditure of this money.
Art. 5. To see if the town will vote to instruct the Park Commissioners to take the unoccupied land bordering on Whitman's Pond, beginning at a point near the ice-house of George Lovell, on Middle street, and extending around and along the borders of said pond to a point at or near the upper dam formerly belonging to the Weymouth Iron Company ; and also the vacant land at the

southern extremity of the pond comprising the territory bounded by Middle, Main, Washington and Pleasant streets, and Park avenue, for the purposes of a public park.
Art. 6. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000 for the purpose of increasing the pay of the janitors of the schools and other public buildings, and that each janitor shall have a proportionate part of such increase.
Art. 7. To see if the town will instruct its officers to make an equal division of its official advertising and printing among the several papers published in Weymouth.
Art. 8. To see if the town will vote to appropriate the money derived from the fines for the illegal sale of liquor, to establish four scholarships in some college or school in Massachusetts, to be awarded to four of the brightest pupils in the High schools whose parents have not the means of giving them a college education.
Also to act upon the following articles, viz. :
Art. 9. To see if the town will vote to authorize the Select- men to contract with the Massachusetts Highway Commission for the construction of so much of Ann street as lies within its limits, and will authorize its treasurer to borrow, from time to time, such sums of money as may be needed to carry out such contract.
Art. 10. Upon petition of Bradley Fertilizer Company and 49 others, to see if the town will erect and maintain a suitable line of electric lights along the line of Neck and River streets in the town of Weymouth, extending from Bridge street to the factory of the Bradley Fertilizer Company at the foot of River street in said town.
Art. 11. Upon the petition of the School Committee, to see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $200 for the conveyance of scholars on Summer street to the schools in Ward 3.
Art. 12. To see if the town will authorize the Selectmen to sell and convey the property on Broad street in Ward 2 used for Engine House and Lockup ; also the property on Lincoln square in Ward 3 now used for Engine House.

And you are directed to serve this Warrant, by posting attested copies thereof, in three public places in each ward in said town, seven days at least before the time of holding said meeting.

Pursuant to the foregoing Warrant, a legal meeting of the in- habitants of the town of Weymouth was held at Clapp's Hall in said Town, on Saturday, July 13, 1895, at 7.45 P. M., the meet- ing being called to order and the Warrant read by the Town Clerk.
Art. 1. Judge James Flint was elected Moderator by ballot, the check list being used in the election.

The Moderator appointed N. D. Canterbury and Henry A. Richards as Tellers, and they were sworn by the Town Clerk.
Voted, That the Selectmen be authorized to sell and convey to M. C. Dizer & Co., the property on Broad street, in Ward 2, used for Engine House and Lockup, upon such terms and con- ditions as will be for the best interest of the town.
The result of the vote being, Yes 120; No 0.
Voted, To indefinitely postpone the second part of the article.
Voted, to take up Article 11.
The Moderator decided that the town could not raise money at this time, so the article was passed over, as being illegal.
Voted. To take up Article 10.
This article in relation to electric lights on Neck and River streets, was not carried. 100 voters not voting in the affirmative. The result being, Yes 80 ; No 0.
Voted, To take up Article 9.
By a vote of Yes 0; No 36 : the town refused to authorize the Selectmen to contract with the Mass. Highway Commissioner for the construction of Ann street.

Voted, That this Article be indefinitely postponed.

In the name of the Commonwealth you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of Weymouth aforesaid, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at Clapp's Hall, in said town, on Saturday, the 10th day of August, instant, at 8 o'clock in the evening, then and there to act upon the following articles, namely :
Article 1. To choose a moderator.
Art. 2. Upon the petition of F. A. Sulis and nine others, to see if the town will empower the Selectmen to sell the lot of land on the corner of Broad and Washington streets in Ward Three, now used as the site for an Engine House, and also authorize the Treasurer to execute a deed for the same.
Art. 3. To see if the town will authorize the Treasurer to execute a deed for the Engine House and Lockup lot in Ward Two if the same shall be sold.
Upon the petition of W. W. Burke and fourteen others, to act upon articles numbered from 4 to 11 inclusive.
Art. 4. To see if the town will vote to appropriate $10,000 or any part thereof for the purpose of widening, straightening, and repairing the highways of said town, the money to be ex- pended during the year 1895, and authorize the town Treasurer to borrow on the town notes such sum of money as may be voted for that purpose.
Art. 5. To see if the town will appropriate $200 for the trans- portation of school children residing on Summer street from their homes to the school and return, and authorize its Treasurer to borrow on the town note the sum of $200.

To see if the town will instruct the Electric Lighting Committee to contract with the Weymouth Electric Light Com- pany for ten electric lights to be established and maintained upon Neck and River streets in said town, and appropriate the sum of $250 therefor, and that the Treasurer be authorized to borrow that sum on the town note.
Art. 7. To see if the town will instruct the Selectmen to call a meeting of the voters of the town to bring in their ballots on the question : Is it expedient for the town to accept the provi- sions of that chapter of the Acts and Resolves of 1891, entitled : "An act to enable cities and towns to manufacture and distribute gas and electricity."
Art. 8. To see if the town will instruct the Park Commis- sioners to confer with the Metropolitan Park Commission in regard to taking any land in the town for the purpose of a Public Park, with a view to incorporating it in the Metropolitan system of Parks.
Art. 9. To see if the town will vote to authorize, empower and instruct its Treasurer to borrow, on behalf and in the name of the town, upon its promissory notes, with the approval of the Selectmen, such sum of money as may be voted under any and all articles in this warrant.
Art. 10. To see if the town will vote to instruct its town offi- cers to make an equal division of its printing and advertising between the newspapers published in Weymouth.
Art. 11. To see if the town will vote to discharge the Com- mittee on Electric Lighting, and place the matter in the hands of the Selectmen, which board alone has any lawful authority to rep- resent the town in the matter.
And you are directed to serve this Warrant, by posting attested copies thereof, in three public places in each ward in said town, seven days at least before the time of holding said meeting.
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this Warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk at or before the time of said meeting.

CLERK'S DISTRICT MEETING.
The undersigned, Town Clerk of Weymouth, met the City Clerk of Quincy, at Quincy, at twelve o'clock at noon, Friday, Nov. 15, 1895, the time and place appointed for the Clerks of the Fifth Norfolk District to meet to examine the returns of votes cast in said district for Representatives to General Court, and found that James H. Flint of Weymouth, and Thaddeus H. Newcomb and James Thompson, both of Quincy having received the largest number of votes, were duly elected, and so certified according to law.
