WEYMOUTH, December 31, 1900.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.
To the Board of Water Commissioners :
GENTLEMEN : I submit my report for the year ending December 31, 1900.
POND.
The dam and surroundings are in good condition. The water in pond did not reach as low as last year and has been of good quality and color, fully as good if not better than the past. The matter of bathing in the pond has been looked after more closely this year with good results.
I would recommend that all bathing be prevented as far as pos- sible.
Samples of water have been sent to the State Board of Health from time to time for examination and the results of same will be found following this report.
PUMPING STATION.
The pumps and boilers are in good order, only a few new valves and valve springs have been needed in the pumps and two new tubes in the boilers. The Hartford Boiler Inspection Co.'s report show the boilers to be in good condition.
STAND PIPE.
On December 4th the water was drawn from the stand pipe and the sides and bottom thoroughly cleaned.
I would recommend that it be cleaned and painted inside next year.
263
MAINS.
Six leaks have been detected and repaired as follows : Two on Rose Hill, one a cracked pipe and the other a poor joint ; one on Sea street, lead joint blew out; two at Fort Point, pipe eaten through from the action of salt water; one on Stetson street in Sin. main, cracked spigot. So far as can be seen our mains are in good condition.
HYDRANTS.
Five new hydrants have been placed this year as follows : One on Hawthorn street, one on Fairmount avenue, one at foot of North street at Great Hill, one on Squanto road and one on Wessagusset road.
The hydrants have been looked after as usual. I think they should be painted this coming year.
GATES.
The gates have received the usual attention and are in good working order.
SERVICE PIPES.
Eleven leaks have been repaired during the year.
Sixty-one new service pipes and forty old services have been relaid as follows :-
