Art. 30. Voted unanimously: That the Board of Selectmen or a majority of them be and hereby are authorized to convey to Peter B. and Robert S. Bradley or to their nominee the fol- lowing described parcel of land forming the easterly portion of Great Hill Park, and being shown as pardel A on a plan of Weymouth Great Hill, to be recorded in the office of the Town Clerk, to wit: Beginning at a point on the westerly side line of Neck Street on the northeasterly corner of land of the Town of Weymouth known as Great Hill Park; thence running south- easterly by the northerly boundary line of said Park a distance

And to accept in exchange therefor a deed of the following described parcel of land equal area located northerly and westerly of the present Great Hill Park and being shown as parcel C on the plan first above named, to wit: Beginning at a point on the northerly line of land of the Ton of Weymouth known as Great Hill Park distant 275 feet northwesterly from the northerly corner of said Park; thence southwesterly in a straight line by land of Peter B. and Robert S. Bradley shown as parcel D on said plan a distance of about 800 feet to a stone bound at the most northerly corner of lot 192 on said plan; thence continuing in the same course about 190 feet to mean high water line of the Weymouth Fore River or Boston harbor and thence continuing in the same course to low water line of Wemouth Fore River; thence running southwesterly by said mean low water line to a point on the continuation of the division line between said parcel C and parcel B on said plan; thence runing southwesterly in a straight line pasing through a point 185 feet distant southwesterly from said bound stone measured at right angles with said last mentioned straight line to the northwest- erly corner of said Park; thence running northeasterly by the north- erly boundary line of said Park a distance of 275 feet to the point of beginning, containing about 4.02 acres more or less, to said mean high water line, and having a frontage on Weymouth Fore River of about 200 feet, measured along said mean high water line.


Including a right of way over a strip of land 40 feet in width lying northeasterly of and adjacent to that portion of the north- easterly boundary line of the above described parcel which lies between said stone bound and said low water line for all uses and purposes for which rights of way are commonly used, which way is to be forever kept open and unobstructed.

And the said Board of Selectmen are further authorized to accept from the said Peter B. and Robert S. Bradley or their nominee, such covenants as may be agreed upon between them, establishing restrictions upon the erection of buildings on and use of that portion of the present Geat Hill Park deeded as above, and hereafter referred to as parcel A .


Art. 31. The Appropriation Committee moved as follows: To raise and appropriate the sum of $50,649 for the support of the Fire Department, which sum includes an amount of $16,500 to be paid to the Water Department as a hydrant charge. Further that a committee of six be appointed by the moderator, one mem- ber to be the Chief of the Fire Department, to consider the re-, quirements of the Fire Department as to additional permanent men, whether or not a central fire station should be established, the location and erection of a fire alarm building, equipment and in general anything bearing on the future requirements of the town in the matter of the Fire Department and fire protection.


John Q. Hunt moved as an amendment that the sum for the support of the Fire Department be $57,689, the addition of $7,040 to provide for the appointment of 6 permanent men at $30 per week.


This amendment was put to the meeting and lost, 56 voting in the affirmative and 69 in the negative. The amendment was de- clared lost.


The motion offered by the Appropriation Board was put to the meeting and it was so voted.


The moderator appointed the Chief of the Fire Department and the Board of Selectmen as a committee to consider the needs of the Fire Department.


Art. 32. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $150 for the installation of a fire alarm box at the corner of Pleasant and Raymond Streets.


Art. 33. No action at this time, for the reason that the subject matter is to receive consideration by the committee ap- pointed under article 31.


Art. 34. Voted: That no action be taken under this article.


Art. 35. The Appropriation Committee moved as follows: To raise and appropriate the sum of $53,370 for the support of the Police Department, $300 of this amount to be used as a suspense account. Mr. Matthew Dowd moved as an amendment: That the sum be $51,870, striking out the Chief of Police recommendation of $1,500 for enforcement of the liquor law.


The amendment was put before the meeting and lost, 44 vot- ing in the affirmative and 78 in the negative.


The motion offered by the Appropriation Committee was put before the meeting and it was so voted.


Art. 36. Voted: That no action be taken under this article.


Art. 37. This article was taken up under article 16.


Art. 38. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $820 for election expenses.


Art. 39. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $2.350 for rent and expenses of town offices.


Art. 40. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $14,710 for the support and maintenance of Tufts Library and its branches and that the income of the Augustus J. Richards, Joseph E. Trask, Susannah Hunt Stetson, Charles Q. Tirrell, Francis Flint Forsaith and Charles Henry Pratt be used for the purposes designated by the respective donors.

Art. 41. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $1,200 for the maintenance of a reading room at Fogg Library, same to be expended under the direction of the Trustees of Tufts Library.


Art. 42. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $38,310 for the relief and support of the poor.


Art. 43. Voted: That the Town authorize its Electric Light Committee to contract with the Weymouth Light and Power Company for furnishing lights for the town, for a period not to exceed one year, any contract to be subject to the approval of the Town Counsel before its execution.


Art. 44. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $25,- 402.84 for street lighting, and that the matter of installing larger and additional lights be left with the Electric Light Committee.


Art. 45. Voted: That articles 45, 46 and 47 be referred to the Electric Light Committee.


Art. 48. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $6,800 for the services and expenses of the Board of Health.


Art. 49. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $1,800 for the employment of District or other Nurses, under the pro- visions of Chapter 40, Section 5, said sum to be expended through its Selectmen or under the direction of the Board of Health, if authorized so to do by the Selectmen.


Art. 50. Voted: That a committee of five be appointed by the moderator to consider the subject matter of this article, and that there be raised and appropriated the sum of $5,000 to be ex- pended under the direction of this committee in taking levels on - the streets throughout the town and on other necessary work preliminary to making a design and estimate of the cost of a sewarage system, and that a system of bench levels be established on hydrants or street bounds for present and further use.


The moderator on March 29, 1927, appointed on this com- mittee, Russell H. Whiting, Irving E. Johnson, Charles T. Heald, Joseph Kelley, Fred O. Stevens.

Art. 52. Voted unanimously: That the' 'sum of $15,000 be raised by loan and appropriated for the construction of water mains of six inches or more in diameter, and that the Treasurer of the town be and hereby is authorized, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow said sum of $15,000 for said purpose, and to issue bonds or notes of the town therefor, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 or Chapter 44 of the General Laws, so that the whole shall be paid in not more than fifteen years.


The tellers reported 89 voting in the affirmative and none in the negative.

Art. 53. Voted unanimously: That the sum of $10,000 be raised by loan and appropriated for the installation of a standby pumping unit at Great Pond, and that the Treasurer of the town be and hereby is authorized with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow said sum of $10,000 for said purpose and to issue bonds or notes of the town therefor, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 of Chapter 44 of the General Laws, so that the whole shall be paid in not more than five years.


The tellers reported 99 voting in the affirmative and none in the negative.


Art. 54. Voted: To appropriate a sum not exceeding$20,000 from the general fund of the Water Department for the purpose of carrying on necessary work for private parties; payment for said work to revert to said general fund.


Art. 55. Voted: To appropriate the sum of $7,000 from the general fund of the Water Department for the purchase of a trenching machine for that Department.


Art. 56. Voted: That the town accept the provisions of Chapter 391, Acts of 1923, as amended by Chapter 413, Acts of 1924, making water rates a lien on property.


Voted: To take up Article 58.


Art. 58. Voted: That the Board of Water Commissioners are hereby authorized to acquire by purchase or take by right of eminent domain for the purpose of preserving the purity of the Town's water supply under the provisions of Chapter 79 and of Section 41 of Chapter 40 of the General Laws of the Com- monwealth, the following described two parcels of land adjoin- ing Weymouth Great Pond with or without the buildings on said parcels.


First parcel: Beginning at point on the easterly line of Weymouth Great Pond on the division line between land of the Town of Weymouth and land of Carrie H. Dunn; thence running easterly by said division line a distance of 37.50 feet to a drill hole in a stone bound; thence continuing in the same course by said division line a distance of 620.81 feet to the southeast cor- ner of said land of the Town of Weymouth; thence turning and running southerly in a straight line a total distance of about 1325 feet measuring approximately as follows: about 391 feet across land of said Dunn; about 633 feet across land of Nathaniel A Shaw et al; about 83 feet across land of Bessie G. Bridges; about 115 feet across land of James J. Cody; about 83 feet across land of Fran- cis S. Fearing and about 20 feet across Oakden Avenue, so called, private way, to the northeast corner of Charles S. Gay; thence running southerly but a little more easterly in a straight line by the division line between said land of Gay, land of Joseph L. Jannell and other land of said Gay on one side and land of Nor- folk Realty Co. on the other a total distance of 145 feet, meas- uring respectively as follows: by land of Gay 45 feet; by land of Joseph L. Jannell 50 feet; and by said other land of Gay 50 feet; thence running southerly but a little more westerly in a straight line a total distance of about 917 feet measuring approximately as follows: about 98 feet across land of John H. Tegg, about 158 feet across land of Mabel T. Jannell, about 16 feet across land of Donald N. A. Montgomery and Richard J. Walsh (Town of Weymouth eax title); about 199 feet across land of the Lake View Cemetery Association; about 213 feet across land of Willie B. Loud; and

about 233 feet across land now or formerly of the Ravner Cor- poration, to the northerly end of the division line between lot 10B and lot 11B as shown on a plan of lots on or near Swan Av- enue, South Weymouth, made for registration in the Land Court, by Russell H. Whiting, Civil Engineer, dated Dec. 7, 1926; thence running westerly by the northerly line of 11B and by lots 12B, 13B, 14B, 15B, 16B, 17B, 18B, 19B, 20B, 21B, and 22B by parcel E and by parcel F respectively as shown on said mentioned plan, a total distance of 813.87 feet to the said easterly line of Wey- mouth Great Pond, passing through a stone bound, distance 16.51 feet easterly from said line of Weymouth Great Pond; thence running in a general northerly direction following the easterly line of Weymouth Great Pond to the point of beginning, contain- ing about 41/2 acres more or less.


Second parcel: Beginning at a point on the easterly line of Weymouth Great Pond at the southwesterly corner of land for- merly of one "Doble" and later of the Rayner Corporation; thence running easterly by the southerly boundary line of said land formerly of "Doble" a distance of 16.51 feet to stone bound; thence continuing in the same course a distance of 79.84 feet; thence running easterly but more northerly a distance of 19.13 feet and all by said land formerly of "Doble" to the north- westerly corner of lot 22B as shown on a plan of lots on or near Swan Avenue, South Weymouth, made for registration in the Land Court by Russell H. Whiting, Civil Engineer, dated Dee. 7, 1926; thence running southwesterly by said lot 22B a distance of 19.72 feet; thence running in a general southwesterly direction by said lot 22B and by lot 22A on said plan by a tangent curve to the left with a radius of 125.61 feet, a total distance of 83.39 feet to a point of compound curvature; thence running in a general southeasterly direction by said lot 22A by a tangent curve to the left with a radius of 15 fcet to a stone bound on the northerly side line of Swan Avenue; thence running in 'a westerly direction by said side line of Swan Avenue a distance of 115 feet to the westerly end of Swan Avenue, as laid out by the town; thence running southerly by said westerly end of Swan Avenue and in the same course by a continuation of said westerly end a total distance of 144.07 feet, bounded easterly by Swan Avenue and by lot numbered 32 on said plan, to land of Lizzie M. Hanscom a distance of 215.12 feet to land of Albert L. Doble a distance of 37.75 feet to an iron pipe; and thence continuing in the same course still by said land of Albert L. Doble a distance of 7 feet to said east- erly line of Weymouth Great Pond; thence turning in a general northeasterly direction by said line of Weymouth Great Pond a distance of about 316 feet to the point of beginning, containing 1.55 acres more or less. Above described premises are shown as parcel E and parcel F on said plan, and also shown as parcel A and parcel B on a "Plan of land in South Weymouth, Mass., to be taken for public water supply purposes" made by Russell H. Whiting, Civil Engineer, dated June 25, 1925.


The tellers reported 107 voting in the affirmative and 1 in the negative.


Art. 57. Voted: That the Board of Water Commissioners are hereby authorized to acquire by purchase or take by right of eminent domain for the purpose of preserving the purity of the Town's water supply under the provisions of Chapter 79 and of Section 41 of Chapter 40 of the General Laws of the Common-

wealth, the whole or any portion of the land lying within the watershed of Weymouth Great Pond and not already owned by the town or authorized to be acquired under the preceding vote, such takings to be made from time to time as said Board shall deem the interests of the Town require, and no such land to be acquired in excess of the amount which in the opinion of the Board can be acquired within the limits of the money hereinafter appropriated for that purpose.


The tellers reported 101 voting in the affirmative and 1 in the negative.


Art. 59. Voted: That there be appropriated the sum of $31,500 for the purpose of acquiring by purchase or right of em- inent domain the tract of land passed upon article 58, and land that may be acquired by purchase or right of eminent domain under the vote passed upon article 57; and that to meet said ap- propriation there be taken from the revenue of the water depart- ment for the current year, the sum of $16,500 and that the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow a sum not to exceed $15,000, and to issue bonds or notes of the town therefor, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 of Chap- ter 44 of the General Laws, so that the whole loan shall be paid in not morethan thirty years from the date of issue of the first bond or note, or at such earlier dates as the Treasurer and Select- men may designate.


The tellers reported 102 voting in the affirmative and 1 in the negative.


Art. 60. The Appropriation Committee moved: To raise and appropriate the sum of $122,262 for the repair of highways, townways, bridges, street oiling, and for the removal of snow.


Mr. Allan C. Emery moved as an amendment that a concrete sidewalk be built from Central Square to Thomas Corner and from Central Square to Lincoln Square, and the cost of said side- walks be taken from the above appropriation. The amendment was put before the meeting and it was not voted.


The motion offered by the Appropriation Committee was put before the meeting and it was so voted.


Art. 61. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of 25,000. for the permanent construction of existing highways.


Art. 62. The Appropriation Committee moved: To raise and appropriate the sum of $10,00 for the construction of permanent sidewalks, under the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 83, Sec- tions 25 and 26.


Mr. John F. Dwyer moved that the words "under the pro- visions of General Laws, Chapter 83, Sections 25 and 26" be stricken out.


The tellers reported 85 voting in the affirmative and 26 in the negative.


Mr. Allan C. Emery moved as an amendment: That the sum be increased to $15,000 and it was so voted.


Mr. Allan C Emery moved: That a permanent sidewalk be built from Central Ssuare to Thomas Corner also from Central Square to Lincoln Square.


Mr. George E. Cuniff moved as a substitution that the loca- tion of building said sidewalks be left to the discretion of the Su- perintendent of Streets. So voted.

Art. 63. Voted: Indefinite postponement of so much of this article as relates to Partridge Road, Lakewood Avenue Extension, and Westminister Road, and to accept the report of the Selectmen laying out Wood Avenue, Richards Road, Genevieve Avenue, Wil- son Avenue, Bluff Road, Manzetta Avenue, Chandler Street, Pleas- ant View Avenue, and Rockcroft Road, and that the Selectmen be authorized to acquire by gift, purchase or right of eminent domain as easement for all purposes of a public street and high- way in and over each of said streets.


Art. 64. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $17,000 for working the streets accepted under article 63, including the acquisition of the easments authorized to be acquired under arti- cle 63.


Art. 65. Voted: That the subject matter of this article be referred to the street department, the cost if any to be taken from the appropriation for that department.


Art. 66. Voted: That no action be taken under this article.


Art. 67. Voted: To raise.and appropriate the sum of $1,400 for draining Ralph Talbot Street, from the property of George A. Blenkhorn to Old Swamp River. -


Art. 68. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $7,650 for resurfacing Columbian Street, from Columbian Square to Main Street.


Mr. Peter E. Sullivan moved: That this meeting do now ad- journ to meet Thursday evening, March 10, 1927 at 7:45 o'clock at the Hall of the Weymouth High School.


The tellers reported 53 voting in the affirmative and 53 in the negative, the moderator declared the motion not a vote.


Mr. Peter E. Sullivan raised a point of order that a quorum was not present.


The tellers reported 126 Town Meeting Members present, more than a majority, the moderator declared the point of order not well taken.


Art. 69. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $101 for the acquisition of an easemant to maintain a drain in a private way leading easterly from Pond Street, and known as Davis Ave- nue, and shown on a plan of subdivision of land in South Wey- mouth, Mass., Russell H. Whiting, Civil Engineer, dated Septem- ber 20, 1921, and on file in Norfolk County Registry of Probate with case No. 60,406, and also the right to discharge the water flowing through said drain near the westerly point of the junc- tion of lots 8 and 9 shown on said plan; and further that the Se- lectmen be and hereby are authorized to acquire by gift, purchase or right of eminent domain said eastment to maintain said drain and to discharge the water flowing through the same.


On motion of Mr. Matthew O'Dowd it was voted: That this meeting do now adjourn to meet again Thursday, March 10, 1927 at 7.45 o'clock p. m. at the Hall of the Weymouth High School.

The adjourned annual town meeting of the Town of Wey- mouth will be held at the Hall of the Weymouth High School on Thursday, the tenth day of March, 1927, at seven o'clock and forty- five minutes in the evening, then and there to act upon articles 70 to 109 with the exception of articles 85-106-107 which have been acted upon.

The adjourned annual meeting of the Town of Weymouth was- called to order at 7.45 o'clock p. m., George L. Barnes, Annual Moderator, presiding. 159 Town Meeting Members being checked by the Police at the door.


Col. Frederic G. Bauer moved to reconsider article 69 as the. count on said vote was not recorded.


Art. 69. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $101. for the acquisition of an easement to maintain a drain in a private way leading easterly from Pond Street, and known as Davis Ave- nue, and shown on a plan of subdivision of land in South Wey- mouth, Mass., Russell H. Whiting, Civil Engineer, dated September 20, 1921, and on file in Norfolk County Registry of Probate, with case No. 60,406, and also the right to discharge the water flowing through said drain near the westerly point at the junction on of lots. 7 and 8 shown on said plan; and further that the Selectmen be and hereby. are authorized to acquire by gift, purchase or right. of eminent domain said easement to maintain said drain and to discharge the water flowing through the same.
