REPORT OF TOWN CLERK
ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, MARCH 5, 1917
For the transaction of business, at 9 o'clock in the forenoon. Meeting called to order by the Town Clerk.
ARTICLE 1 was taken up and Henry Webb was elected Moderator by ballot.
Owing to the inclemency of the weather, with less than one hundred present, it was voted to adjourn said meeting to 1.30 o'clock P.M. Monday, March 12, 1917.
SCITUATE, Mass., March 5, 1917.
To the President:
I am directed by the inhabitants of the Town of Scituate to forward to you resolutions passed this day at their Annual Meeting.
The action was unanimously taken before any other busi- ness had been transacted.
In obedience to this direction, I am enclosing the resolution herewith.
Very respectfully, JETSON WADE, Town Clerk of Scituate, Mass.
The inhabitants of the Town of Scituate in Annual Meet- ing assembled hereby Resolve, That we pledge our whole support to the President of these United States in upholding the dignity of this country among the nations and the rights of its citizens to unhindered travel upon the seas.
Voted, That a copy of this Resolution be sent by the Town Clerk to the White House.

Voted, That the Town do authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow during the financial year beginning January 1, 1918, in anticipation of the collection of revenue of said year, such sums of money as may be necessary for the current expenses of the Town, but not exceeding the limit fixed by law, giving the note or notes of the Town therefor, payable within one year from the dates thereof, and to renew such note or notes as may be given for a less period than one year. All debts incurred under this authority shall be paid from the revenue of the then current year.

ARTICLE 7
To hear the report of any Committee heretofore chosen, or act thereon.
Voted, To pass over.
ARTICLE 8
Voted, That the Town do authorize the Selectmen to prosecute, compromise or defend any suit or suits within the Commonwealth in the name of the Town.
ARTICLE 9
Voted, That the taxes be collected in the same way and manner as last year.
All taxes shall be payable by November 1 of the year when assessed, and that all taxes unpaid after said Novem- ber 1 shall draw interest at six per cent from the 15th day of October until paid.
ARTICLE 10
Voted, That the report of the Committee on Nomenclature be accepted, except that the portion of Blossom Street from Gannett Street by Lincoln Mill to Main Street be called Mordecai Lincoln Road, and that the street proposed to be called Beach Street be called Gannett Street from the depot to the Gateway at the Beach.
Mt. Vernon Street to be called Ann Vinal Road, and that the Committee be continued for further action and report.
Following are the changes in the names of other streets, as in their printed report:
Main Street between the Cohasset line and Little's Bridge to be called the County Way.
Blossom Street between Main Street and High Street to be called Booth Hill Road.
Beach Street from the Gateway at Collier's Beach, northerly to the Glades to be called Glades Road, and that Garfield Avenue between Beach Street and Bailey's Cause- way be called Hatherly Road.

Damon Avenue to be called Damon Road.
Cleveland Avenue to be changed to Whitcomb Lane.
Ocean Avenue to Collamore Road.
Grove Street from Main Street to High Street to be called Mann Lot Road.
Charles Street from Mann Hill Road to Main Street to be called Captain Peirce Road.
Pond Street to be called Old Oaken Bucket Road.
South Main Street from the fountain on the Country Way to the Norwell line to be called Cornet Stetson Road.
Briggs Place to be called Briggs Lane.
Bay Street from its junction with Brook and Union Streets, including Charles Street to Ann Vinal Road, to be called Tilden Road.
Turner Avenue between Tilden Road and Jericho Road to be called Turner Road.
Willow Street to be called Beaver Dam Road.
Central Street between Kent and the Country Way to be called First Parish Road.
Union Street from Satuit Brook to the Country Way to be called Stockbridge Road.
The name Elm Park to be called Torrey Park.
The road running from Kent Street over the Third Cliff to the Driftway to be called Gilson Road.
The street leading from the junction of Kent and First Parish Road to the Second Cliff to be called the Causeway; the street leading from its easterly end toward the south to Bassincove to be called Peggoty Beach Road; the street lead- ing northwest to the First Cliff to be called Edward Foster Road.
High Street from its junction with Grove Street and Mann Lot Road to the Hingham line to be called Thomas Clapp Road.
ARTICLE 11
Voted, That the sum of $300 be raised and appropriated to restore and make safe the Cudworth House, that this sum be expended by the Trustees of the Scituate Historical Society, and that the building be and hereby is given into

the custody of the Society subject to use by the School Committee for teaching colonial and municipal history.
ARTICLE 12
Voted, That the Town raise and appropriate the sum of $1500 for the purchase from the United States Government of all the land and beachland that lies southeasterly of a line beginning on the easterly side of Cedar Point at a place that bears south 4912° west from the "Old Sow," so called, and that bears north 4° east from the willow tree on the First Cliff, and from said place running south 74° west across Cedar Point to the Harbor, together with the right of way and shore privilege, including the buildings, lighthouse and improve- ments thereon, and to repair both said lighthouse and build- ings.
ARTICLE 13
To see if the Town will authorize the purchase by the Park Commissioners for park purposes of two and one-fourth acres of land, being a part of the farm of the late Charles Manson, lying southwesterly of and adjoining the Jenkins School, etc.
Voted, To pass over.
ARTICLE 14
To see if the Town will authorize and instruct the Park Commissioners to acquire, by purchase or taking by right of eminent domain, certain parcels of land for bathing beaches, etc.
