TOWN OF WAKEFIELD


Article 18


To see if the town will vote to transfer from the Poor Department to the School Department, title to such lands as may be required for school purposes in the Woodville District, or what they will do about it.


On Motion of W. C. Robbins,


Voted: That the Town transfer from the Overseers of the Poor to the School Department for School purposes, control of land on the east- erly side of Farm Street, contiguous to the southerly and easterly sides of the present Woodville school lot; described as follows: Commenc- ing at the southerly line of the present school house lot on Farm Street, thence southerly by Farm Street 150 feet, thence at about a right angle easterly 500 feet to a brook, thence northerly by said brook to a point about 350 feet easterly from Farm Street, thence westerly to the northerly line of the present school house lot, and in the same course, thence south- erly by the easterly line of said school house lot, thence westerly by the southerly line of said school house lot to the point of beginning; amount- ing to approximately three acres.


Article 19


To see if the town will vote to authorize and direct the Selectmen to. dispose of the present school building in the Woodville District, when a new building shall have been completed, or .what they will do about it.

Voted: That the town authorize and direct the Board of Selectmen to dispose of the present Woodville School Building, and have it re- moved from the school land when a new building shall have been com- pleted as authorized under Article 16 of the Warrant for the Town Meet- ing of March 10, 1919.


Article 20


To see if the town will authorize the School Committee to establish and maintain State-aided vocational education in accordance with the provisions of Chap. 471, Acts 1911, and acts amendatory thereto, or de- pendent thereon, and further authorize the School Committee to spend a sum not exceeding six hundred dollars ($600) for the purpose of maintain- ing Practical Arts evening classes for women.

Voted: That the Town raise and appropriate the sum of Forty- five Hundred Dollars ($4,500) in addition to the sum already raised and appropriated for School Department, for the purpose of making an ad- ditional increase of Fifty Dollars ($50) to the amount voted at the last meeting, for Teachers' Salaries.

That the sum of $400 be raised and appropriated and same be added to the school appropriation for State aided vocational education said amount to be expended for agricultural purposes only.

To see if the Town will appoint a committee of five to consist of the Chairman of the Finance Committee, the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, the Town Counsel, the Chairman of the Board of Assessors and the Chairman of the Municipal Light Plant, for the purpose of in- vestigating the advisability of the sale of the Municipal Light Plant, with power to examine all books and records of the plant and report at the next annual town meeting, and raise and appropriate the sum of $500 for the expenses to be used if necessary in the investigation.

To see if the inhabitants of the town of Wakefield will vote to make application to the General Court of Massachusetts to erect and constitute in said town of Wakefield, a city government; determine the form there- of which they will recommend for incorporation in a city charter; ap- point a committee in relation thereto; raise and appropriate money for the use of such committee and take any other proper action in relation thereto.

Article 37


To see if the town will appropriate the sum of $100 or some other amount, and elect a director for demonstration work in agriculture and home economics, the money to be expended by, and the director to serve in co-operation with the County Agricultural Trustees of the Middlesex County Beaureau of Agriculture and Home Economics under the provis- ions of Chapter 273, General Acts of 1918.

Article 38


To see if the town will authorize and instruct the Board of Select- men to remove the barn on the Wakefield estate to land owned by the town on North Avenue near the brook, and will raise and appropriate the sum of $1,500 for this purpose, and further authorize the Board of Selectmen to take from the Highway appropriation such amount as may be necessary to complete this work should this appropriation not be sufficient.

To see if the town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to remove the piano now in the Wakefield Mansion to the town hall, and will raise and appropriate sufficient money to put it in proper condition for use or what they will do about it.

Article 40


To see if the Town will vote to purchase a new piece of motor ap- paratus to be used by the Volunteer Hose Company, and raise and appro- priate money for the same.

To hear and act upon the report of the Committee appointed under Article 23 of the annual warrant of 1918, in relation to the purchase of land around Crystal Lake, for the preservation of its water supply.

That the Town authorize the High School Building Committee to. expend $170,000, in addition to the $280,000, heretofore appropriated for the building and equipment of a High School.

Article.2. To see if the Town will authorize the High School Build- ing Committee to expend $220,000, in addition to the $280,000 heretofore appropriated for the building and equipment of the new High School.


Article 3. To see if the town will appropriate the sum of $220,000 for the purpose designated in the next preceding article, and raise $5,000 thereof by taxation during the current year, or what they will do about it.


Article 4. To see what sum of money the town will vote to author- ize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow to provide money with which to build and equip the New High School, and to issue bonds, notes or scrip of the town therefor.

Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to issue bonds, notes or scrip to provide such amount as may be voted under the preceding article for the purpose named therein, or what they will do about it.

Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to obtain its water supply from the Metropolitan Water Works and authorize the town Water and Sewerage Board to make application therefor.


Article 13. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate a sufficient sum of money to pay the initial charge for becoming a part of the Metro- politan Water System, and authorize the Town Treasurer to borrow for the town such sum of money as it may vote for such initial charge, and issue the bonds, notes or scrip of the town, with the approval of the Selectmen therefor.


Article 14. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate a sum of money for the Water and Sewer Department, to pay for any water or water rates or rental which may become due in the current year in case the town votes to obtain its water supply from the Metropolitan Water Works.

To see if the Town will authorize the Water and Sewer Board to acquire a sufficient lot of land, and to construct thereon filter beds for filtering the water from Crystal Lake, and raise and appropriate a sufficient sum of money therefor, and authorize the Treasurer to borrow for the town such sum of money as it may vote for acquiring said lot of land, and constructing said filter beds, and issue the bonds, notes and scrip of the town, with the approval of the Selectmen therefor.
