TOWN CLERK'S REPORT
The regular Annual Town Meeting was held Monday, March 6, 1916.
Charles S. Chace was elected Moderator.
Voted that the finance committee appointed by the Selectmen be authorized to report the sum or sums of money to be raised by taxation to defray town charges the ensuing financial year and report needed permanent improvements and the method of payment.
The following list of officers was elected with Ferdinand Waldron and George T. Horton as ballot clerks and Chas. G. Kidder and W. E. Walker as tellers.

Voted that we purchase an apparatus for heating oil for our streets and pay same from regular Street appropriation.
Voted to accept the layout of Brook Street as made by Elmer E. Robinson and on file with the Town Clerk.
Voted that the Road Surveyors construct the layout of the street from Elm Street to Somerset Avenue and the sum of Three Hundred Dollars be taken from the regular Street appropriation agreeable to the plan and survey dated Nov. 1, 1915, and on file at the office of the Town Clerk.

Voted to appropriate Ten Thousand Dollars to pay the cost of building an addition to North Dighton School Building in accordance with the plans prepared by Edwin F. Tirrell, Architect, Boston Mass., and to provide funds for the payment of this appropriation the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars, and to issue ten notes of the Town therefor of $1,000 each. The first note payable Nov. 1st, 1916 and one on Nov. 1st of each year until all are paid.
Voted to accept the report of Town Officers as printed.
Voted the compensation of Treasurer and Collector of Taxes be same as last year which was for the Treasurer $200 per year plus the price of his official bond. The Col- lector one per cent of the commitment of Taxes plus his official bond.
Voted to empower and authorize the Selectmen to act as its agent in defending Suits at Law brought against the Town, employ counsel, and settle claims.
Voted to authorize the Treasurer with approval of Selectmen to borrow money in anticipation of revenue.
Voted that the Town Officers be bonded in some bond company satisfactory to the Selectmen.

At the adjourned Annual Town Meeting held April 1st, 1916.
Voted to authorize the Selectmen to fill vacancies in Town offices.
Voted that all balances in the several departments be reappropriated for the purposes they were originally in- tended.
Voted to raise and appropriate on'e thousand dollars for oiling streets, if any more is needed the same to be taken from the regular street appropriation the money to be ex- pended under the direction of the Selectmen.
Voted that Clarence C. Andrews, Edward D. Perry, J. Willis Andrews, Otis N. Walker, and George M. Chase, be a committee of five to take full charge of constructing the school building at North Dighton or addition thereto and that the Selectmen order no bills paid unless approved by that committee.
Voted to raise and appropriate $500 to repair Dighton and Berkley Bridge.
Voted to raise and appropriate $400 extra to pay in- terest charges.
. At a special Town Meeting held April 14, 1916, Joseph E. Sears was elected Moderator by ballot.
Voted A. Ellery Briggs, Geo. B. Glidden, J. E. Sears,' D. F. Lane, and J. K. Milliken be a committee of five to employ engineers approved by Henry Goodnough of the State Department of Health to investigate and recom- mend the best plans for the Town to adopt relative to securing and installing a water supply system for the Town and estimate the cost thereof agreeable to instruc- tions adopted at a Mass Meeting held April 1st, 1916.
Voted to raise and appropriate $500 to be expended by this Committee.

At a special Town Meeting held June 15, it was voted to rescind the vote whereby we voted to borrow the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars to alter and repair the North Dighton School building.
Voted to appropriate the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars to be used for the purpose of acquiring a suitable location and constructing a new school building in the North Vil- lage. The location of the same to be determined and the building to be built under the direction and supervision of the same special committee elected for the purpose of repairing and altering the present school building, and to provide funds for the payment of this appropriation the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars and to issue ten notes of the Town therefor of one thousand dollars each. The first note payable Nov. 1st, 1916 and one each year until all are paid. Voted to authorize the Committee to repair the heating plant in old school building from this appropria- tion.
