The Selectmen reported to the Town that Edward D. Perry, Mrs. Ferdinand Waldron and William P. Eddy have filed claims with the Board for damages caused by the taking of land on Pleasant Street by the Mass. High- way Commission for highway purposes. Mr. Perry's claim was $400; Mrs. Waldron's claim was $350; Mr. Eddy's claim was $100; and the Selectmen recommended these claims be paid.


This report was accepted and it was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $850 to pay the same.


Arthur F. Sprague resigned as a Highway Surveyor June 30th, which resignation was accepted by the Select- men.

ANNUAL REPORT


At a special Town Meeting held August 4, 1916 it was voted to strike out the words "And to further authorize this committee from this appropriation to repair the heating plant in the present school building."


At a Special Town Meeting held Sept. 29, 1916 it was voted to choose Charles S. Chase Moderator.


Voted to rescind the vote taken August 4, 1916, where- by we voted to appropriate $10,000 to build a new school building at North Dighton Village.


Voted to postpone action on the motion of C. C. Andrews to borrow $14,000 for a new school building at North Dighton until the Annual Town Meeting in March, 1917.


The special Town Meeting adjourned from Sept. 29, 1916, was held Oct. 13, 1916.


The Selectmen reported as follows:


They recommended that Bedford and Prospect Streets and Mount Hope Lane be laid out and accepted by the Town as public ways and streets agreeable to a survey and plans made by E. D. Robinson, Surveyor, Sept., 1916, and filed at the office of the Town Clerk, Sept. 29, 1916, together with a description of said streets and lane which are a part of this report.


Voted that we accept and layout Bedford and Prospect Streets and Mount Hope Lane as recommended by the Selectmen in this report recorded herewith plans and descriptions of which were made by Elmer D. Robinson and filed with the Town Clerk, Sept. 29, 1916.


These plans and a description of said streets have also been recorded in the Records herewith.


Voted Bedford and Prospect Streets have the same names and that Mount Hope Lane be called Mount Hope Street.


Voted that the Selectmen be authorized to take all steps necessary for the removal of all sewerage from Taun- ton River.

Shall there be a convention to revise, alter or amend the Constitution of the Commonwealth, Yes 68; No. 67.


Shall an act passed by the General Court in the year 1916, to make the first day of January known as New Years day a legal holiday be approved and become law, Yes 127; No. 59.


Shall an act passed by the General Court in the year 1916, entitled "An Act to prevent the Voters of one Politi- cal Party from voting in the primaries of another Political Party," be approved and become law, Yes 72; No. 63.


At a special Town Meeting held Nov. 7, 1916, it was voted to choose Charles S. Chase, Moderator:


Voted to instruct the Selectmen to sell the fishing privi- leges at public auction and they were sold then and there, one to E. D. Perry and one to D. F. Lane at $10 each.


Voted that the Town accept the gift of William E. Walker of Taunton of a Memorial to our Soldiers of the Civil War in the form of a boulder with the name of each soldier incribed thereon, the location to be decided by William E. Walker, Daniel D. Andrews and the Select- men.


Voted to accept the bequest of the late Annie R. Wash- burn provided there is no expense to the Town.


Voted to instruct the Selectmen to take the Carr Case to the Supreme Court.


At a special Town Meeting held December 5, 1916, Charles S. Chase, chosen Moderator.


Voted to authorize the Selectmen to give an Easement to the Bay State St. Ry. on land at Broad Cove if in their judgment it is advisable to do so.


Voted that a committee be chosen to investigate the cost of lighting our Streets by electricity, the number of lights needed and the best source to secure the current and that the Committee consist of the Board of Select-
