Report of the Committee on Water Supply
To the Citizens of Dighton:
Your committee on Water Supply for the town (organ- ized as last year) voted to arrange, through its sub-com- mittee, consisting of J. E. Sears and A. Ellery Briggs, with C. D. Babbitt of Berkley, to drive some wells; but learning that the State Board did not approve such arrange- ment and that the Board would approve the employing of the Hanscom Construction Company of Boston, arrange- ments were made with the said company to drive a set of wells and to test the same with a steam pump. Two wells were driven on the west side of Pine Swamp on the south side of Brook St. These wells did not prove satisfactory; so a series of wells was driven on the north side of Brook St. These wells gave such good results when the hand pump was applied that six of them were yoked together and the steam pump employed, leaving two of the eight wells driven to be used, for observation. Two outside wells were driven and one of these was used as a test well.
The pumping test gave an abundant supply of very clear and very soft water,-in fact the supply equalled the quantity obtained from some plants in towns where they have two or three times as many wells.
A copy of the report of the Construction Company is on file with the Town Clerk.
