Report of the Fire Department

For the Financial Year ending December 31, 1914.

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen :-

Gentlemen : During the year ending December 31, 1914, we have made some changes in this department whereby the efficiency has been increased. The department has responded to 257 alarms during the past twelve months as follows: 74 bell, 160 still, and 23 automatic.

The Board of Engineers would recommend that the town . pay its firemen for the ensuing year as follows: Chief $28.00 per week; each assistant engineer $250.00 per year; clerk $50.00 per year; permanent captains $19.25 per week; per- manent firemen $18.55 per week; driver of automobile truck, mechanical man, $20.00 per week; call captains of hose and ladder trucks $160.00 per year; call clerks of hose and ladder trucks $160.00 per year; enginemen $160.00 per year each; other members of the fire department $150.00 per year each.

We would recommend that the town purchase an automo- bile combination and pumping engine. We feel that this machine is needed, as in some localities in town we have to use forced pressure in order to get efficient service.

We would recommend the appropriation of $22,000.00 for this department for the year 1915.

F. A. RUSSELL, Chief.
