Article 25. VOTED to raise and appropriate the sum of $852.00 for the purpose of purchasing and installing a two-way base radio, together with the necessary equipment, for the Police Department.


Article 26. VOTED to raise and appropriate the sum of $1200.00 for the purpose of purchasing the present Police Cruiser from Colonial Car Lease Co., Inc., to replace. the present Town owned 1957 Ford Cruiser, and to give the Selectmen power to dispose of the old Cruiser.


Article 27. VOTED to establish a committee to be known as the School Building Needs Study Committee to consist of seven (7) persons, as follows: The members of the School Committee, one member of the Board of Selectmen to be chosen by their own membership, one member of the Finance Committee to be chosen by their own membership, one member to be elected from the floor and one member to be appointed by the Moderator. This committee shall make a report to the Town by or before the Annual Town Meeting of 1964. Thereupon, Paul W. Williams was elected from the floor, and Mary D. Gomes was appointed by the Moderator to serve on said Committee.


Article 28. VOTED to hear the report of any standing committees and establish any new committees. There were no reports from any committee.


Article 29. VOTED to raise and appropriate the sum of $250.00 for expenses for the School Building Needs Study Committee.


Article 30. VOTED to raise and appropriate the sum of $47,022.33 as the Town's share of the annual maintenance and operating budget for the Plymouth-Carver Regional School District consisting of the capital costs assessment of $16,852.00 and the operating costs assessment of $30,170.33 which is in accordance with the provisions of Section 168 of Chapter 71 of the General Laws. Said

appropriation is to be used in conjunction with an appro- priation made available for the same purpose by the Town of Plymouth.


Article 31. VOTED to approve the amount of debt (to wit: $120,000.00) authorized by the Plymouth-Carver Regional District School Committee at a meeting held on January 24, 1963, for the purpose of completing the construction, original equipment and furnishing of the regional high school building.


Article 32. VOTED to indefinitely postpone action of this Article (Article 23 related to the appropriation of money for completion of the regional high school building).


Article 33. VOTED to raise and appropriate the sum of $2,250.00 for the purpose of purchasing a 1959 thirty-six passenger Chevrolet School Bus from Sarah Holmes for the School Department.


Article 34. VOTED to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.00 for repairs to the Town Shed.


The Moderator then requested and received the neces- sary unanimous consent of the assembly to present the following resolution which was unanimously adopted: 'That a committee consisting of Mrs. Elthea E. Atwood, Bernard E. Shaw and Ralph E. Washburn, all of South Carver, and members of the Carver Historical Association, working with the approval and in conjunction with Mrs. H. Clayton McFarlin and/or the executor or administrator of the estate of the late H. Clayton McFarlin, investigate the possibility of obtaining Mr. McFarlin's records, diaries and notes per- taining to cranberry bog construction, bog maintenance, and all facets of cranberry growing, which after being placed in proper booklet form, could become a permanent public record." It was also voted that the committee report back to the town not later than the 1964 Annual Town Meeting.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING


July 11, 1963


A Special Town Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Carver was held at the Governor John Carver School on July 11, 1963. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 o'clock P.M., by the Moderator, Bradford H. Cole, and the meeting proceeded to act upon the Articles in the Warrant as follows:


Article 1. VOTED, unanimously, to accept the pro- visions of Chapter 40 of the General Laws, Section 8C, authorizing the Board of Selectmen to appoint a Conserva- tion Commission, and the provisions of said Chapter 40, Section 5, clauses (51) and (50) providing for the operation and maintenance of said conservation commission, and the Board of Selectmen are hereby directed, within thirty days of the acceptance of this Article, by vote of the town meeting, to appoint a conservation commission composed of seven members; and the conservation commission so estab- lished are hereby authorized to expend the sum of one hundred ($100.00) dollars for the purposes of the law."


Article 2. VOTED "to appropriate from available funds in the treasury the sum of one hundred ($100.00) dollars for the use of the Conservation Commission."


Article 3. VOTED "to transfer the sum of one thousand five hundred ($1500.00) dollars from the Road Machinery Fund for the purpose of purchasing a used long wheel-base truck and chassis for the use of the Highway Department, and that said long wheel-base truck and chassis be purchased with the approval of the Highway Surveyor and Selectmen."


Article 4. VOTED to appropriate from available funds in the Treasury the sum of five hundred ($500.00) dollars, said sum of money to be added to the Library Account.


Article 5. VOTED to adopt the protective by-laws proposed by the Carver Planning Board, as amended, in accordance with Article 5 of the Warrant. (The full text

of this by-law is available in pamphlet form at the Town Clerk's office, and is, therefore, not included herein. The by-laws were approved by the Attorney-General on July 26, 1963, and were published once each week for three succes- sive weeks in the Middleboro Gazette, the last publication being on August 29, 1963, the effective date of the by-law).


VOTED, unanimously, to adjourn. Adjourned at 11:35 P.M.
