PUBLIC LIBRARY.

TRUSTEES' REPORT.

The financial statement will be found in the report of the Selectmen.

The usual appropriation of $100 and dog tax will be sufficient for the needs of the library for the ensuing year.

The following donations have been received: from Hon. W. F. Draper, Year Book of Department of Agriculture; Mr. N. T. Allen, Complete Catalogue of the West Newton English and Classical School and other educational books.

The following named periodicals can be obtained upon the seven-day plan : Harper's and Leslie's Weekly, Scientific American, Medfield News ; monthly, Harper's, Scribner's, Cosmopolitan, Century, Atlantic, Munsey's, Frank Leslie's, St. Nicholas, and Re- view of Reviews.

The Trustees have adopted the system, now in use in many libraries, of issuing, upon request of applicant, two books on one card, only one of which can be fiction. By this plan we hope to encourage the reading of a better class of books.

Number of books issued from Feb. 1, 1895, to Feb. 1, 1896, 9,648 ; number of bound volumes added, 133.

Reading-room and Library open Saturday 3 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. ; Tuesday, 6 to 9 P.M.

The Moses Ellis Trust Fund of $200 : this lot was so out of repair that the committee had to expend much more than the amount of interest due ; and the lot now owes the cemetery some- thing over $8.00, which will be paid from future interest.

Neat markers have been procured for each lot, ready to put in place in the spring.

The above account shows a balance of $1.62 in hands of com- mittee for cemetery purposes.

25

A former committee procured a Register, indexed, in which to record names of all burials, also two books of plans of lots in which to locate every grave and who was buried therein.

These books, once started and well kept, will make a complete record of all particulars needed.

Owing to the regrading and increase of the number of lots, and the need of doing more next year to finish all complete, the lots will have to be renumbered in part, and the plans changed to the new order of things.

We respectfully recommend that $500 be given the committee in addition to lots sold, to complete the grading while it can be done without disturbing graves.

The gain in the number of lots will more than repay the ex- pense when the lots are sold.

Respectfully submitted,

W. P. HEWINS, A. B. PARKER, Cemetery

REPORT OF SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES.

The Standard Weights and Measures furnished by the State have been kept in good condition, and are ready for use at any time. It is for the interest of those who are in daily use of weights and measures to have them correct by the standards furnished by the State ; and, as no fee is charged for their adjust- ment if out of order, there seems to be no excuse for not having " just balances."
