HIGH SCHOOL.
A written examination will be required of pupils desiring admission to the High School, and each one admitted will select which Course of Study he desires to pursue. Optional studies can be chosen with consultation with the Principal, subject to the necessities of the school organization.
No change from one course, or from one optional study to another, or taking of irregular or mixed courses can be permitted except on written request of parent or guardian, approved by the Principal and confirmed by vote of the board. Diplomas will be awarded only to those who have completed one of the regular courses.
A record will be kept of each pupil's standing as determined by recitation and by examination. Each perfect recitation will be reckoned ten,-entire failures and unexcused absences each zero, in making up the average standing. An average of sixty percent will be required for advancement in each study.

WARRANT FOR TOWN MEETING, 1884.
WORCESTER, SS.
To either of the Constables of the Town of Southbridge, in the County of Worcester. GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify the inhabitants of the Town of South- bridge, aforesaid, qualified to vote in elections and Town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Southbridge, on Monday, the seventh day of April next, at nine o'clock, in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following articles :
ART. 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said ineeting.
ART. 2. To choose all necessary Town Officers for the en- suing year-the Clerk, Treasurer, Selectmen, Overseers of the Poor, Assessors, School Committee, Library Committee, Cem- etery Committee Auditors of Accounts, one or more High- way Surveyors and Constables will be voted for on one ballot. The polls will be kept open for voting until three o'clock p. m., unless the meeting shall otherwise determine.
ART. 3. To vote by ballot "yes" or "no" in answer to the question, "Shall license be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in the town." .
ART. 4. To hear the report of the Auditors of Accounts, Treasurer, Clerk, Selectmen, Overseers of the Poor, Fire En- gineers, School Committee, Library Committee, and Cemetery Committee, and act thereon.

ART. 5. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary to pay town debts and charges the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ART. 6. To determine the manner of repairing the high- ways and bridges the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ART. 7. To see it the town will authorize the Collector to use the means for collecting the taxes which the town Treas- urer when appointed a collector may use, or act thereon.
ART. 8. To see if the town will allow a discount on taxes paid within a certain period, or act thereon.
ART. 9. To see if the town will authorize the Treasurer to borrow money in anticipation of taxes, or act thereon.
ART. 10. To see it the town will accept the list of jurors as posted and presented by the Selectmen, or act thereon.
ART. 11. To see if the town will vote to pay the engine men for the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ART. 12. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to pay firemen according to the vote at the last annual meeting, or act thereon.
ART. 13. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money for the observance of Decoration Day, or act thereon

To see if the town will authorize their Treasurer to transfer to unappropriated funds, one thousand two hundred and sixty two dollars and fifty cents, liquor license money, and thirteen dollars and forty-nine cents unexpended appropria- tion for Columbian road and Curtis sidewalk, and to transfer from unappropriated funds three hundred and two dollars and seventy-three cents to the credit for deficiencies for Hamilton street, Main street, and Chapin street sidewalks, South Marcy street, Morris street, Woodstock and Westville roads, and lamp posts, also five thousand dollars for payment of debts, or act thercon.

ART. 15. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to pay the Water Supply Company for the use of hydrants, and water for the drinking fountain for the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ART. 16. To see if the town will raise and appropriate six hundred dollars for improving the highway on the river road between the brook north of Christopher Abbott's house and the brook east of Wm. H. H. Cheney's house, or act thereon.
ART. 17. To see what action the town will take in regard to the brook nuisance on Main and Central streets, or act thereon.
ART. 18. To see if the town will pay William J. Keith any part of the expense for sidewalks on Sayles street, or aet thereon.
ART. 19. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to complete the sidewalk from Elm street to land of H. D. Edwards on north side of Dresser street, and to build new walk from land of H. D. Edwards to land of C. A. Dresser on said street, or act thereon.
ART. 20. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to build sidewalk on west side new Chapin street from Main street fo Dress. r street, or act thereon.
ART. 21. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to build sidewalk on east side new Chapin street, from Main street to land of Paige and Chapin, or act thereon.
ART. 22. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to build side walk on east side Chapin street, from land of George W. Corey, to land of Joel W. Marble, or act thereon.
ART. 23. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money to improve the highway from Morris street road to the Columbian Village, or act thereon.
