Mr. Victor S. Ryder has given much time to his duties as Supervisor of Attendance. Requirements of law and problems of need receive his attention. The report of the Annual School Census as of October 1, 1940 submitted by him is shown on another page.
He also states: "In accordance with the Provisions of Sections 69 to 73 inclusive of Chapter 149 of the General Laws of Massachusetts as amended by acts of 1939 Chapter 461 Sections 7 and 8, I have issued badges to all Newsboys in Harwich of which there were ten.
I have also issued sixty-seven Educational and Em- ployment certificates as required by the General Laws.
-113-
I have investigated all cases of absence which have been reported to me and in many cases find lack of shoes and proper clothing the main cause for poor attendance."
Some place in the above report has been given to various departments and activities. Many details have been omitted. Space would not permit mentioning all the worth- while work that has been accomplished. Many have been contributors and we hope many have been helped thereby.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES H. PRATT,
Superintendent of Schools.
