Article 53. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to the Water Department Construction Account for extending water mains and appurtenances in such streets and ways public or private, as the Board of Water Commissioners shall determine. Also, determine whether the appropriation shall be provided for by taxation, by transfer from available funds in the treasury, or by issuance of a loan.


The Finance Committee's recommendation was ac- cepted and adopted and it was voted to raise and ap- propriate $30,000.00 for this Article, provided this fund be used for the installation of water mains on public roads only. Also that Articles 50, 51 and 56 inclusive be indefinitely postponed. The installation of these articles is to be left to the discretion of the Board of Water Commissioners.


Article 54. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sufficient sum of money to be used for the dredging of the channel to Round Cove in East Harwich, this sum to be used in conjunction with such sums as are allocated by the Commonwealth, Division of Waterways, and act fully thereon.


Accepted and adopted and $1,000.00 raised and ap- propriated to be used in conjunction with such sums as may be allocated by the Commonwealth of Mass., Division of Highways for the dredging of Round Cove, Pleasant Bay, East Harwich, Mass.

Article 55. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sufficient sum of money to be used for the improvement and hardening of the Town Parking lot at the East end of Long Pond, to be used under the direction of the Park Commissioners and act fully thereon.


Accepted and adopted. Raised and appropriated $500.00


Article 56. To see if the Town will vote to extend the water mains on Saquatucket Bluffs Road, and to act fully thereon.


Indefinitely postponed.


Article 57. To see if the Town will vote to rescind the action taken on Article 3 at a Special Town Meet- ing, May 24, 1946, whereby Miss Lucy Ginn be re- quired to enter in a contract with the Town guarantee- ing six percent income on the cost of a short two inch extension to her home on Division Street, and to act fully thereon.


Indefinitely postponed.


Article 58. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of twelve hundred dollars ($1200) to plant shade trees along the Town Roads as deemed proper by the Committee, established at the last Annual Town Meeting, and to act fully thereon.

Article 59. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sufficient sum of money to take care of drainage of excessive water from heavy rains at Cross and Pleasant Streets in Harwichport, and to act fully thereon.


Accepted and adopted as read. Raised and appro- priated $1,000.00.


Article 60. To see if the Town will vote to accept Chapter 227 of the Acts of the General Court for 1948, as amended concerning certain cemetery associations in the Town of Harwich, and to act fully thereon.


It was moved by Oscar J. Cahoon, and duly seconded that: The Town vote to accept the provision of Chap- ter 227 of the Acts of the General Court of 1948, as amended by Chapter 2 of the Acts of the General Court of 1949. This motion was carried without opposition.

Article 61. To see if the Town will vote to increase the wage for Town labor to one dollar ($1.00) per hour, and to act fully thereon.


Accepted and adopted as read by voting to pay Town labor one dollar an hour.


Article 62. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Moderator to appoint a committee of not less than five to study and consider the Town By-Laws; to change, amend, revoke or add to and to report its recommendations at the next annual meeting, and to act fully thereon.


Accepted and adopted and the following commit- tee appointed : Henry F. Smith, Raymond H. Grayson, Oscar J. Cahoon, Ambrose N. Nickerson, Ralph B. Snow.


Article 63. To see if the Town will vote to expend the refunded Dog Tax for the support of Brooks Free Library, and to act fully thereon.


Accepted and adopted as read.


Article 64. To see if the Town will authorize the School Committee to dispose of one old gas stove no longer in use at the High School.


Accepted and adopted as read with a motion to sell for $1.00 the gas stove to the East Harwich Methodist Church.


Article 65. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of five thousand dollars ($5000) for the School Committee to use for the purpose of de- veloping a playing field at the High School.


Accepted and adopted as read, and ($5,000.00) five thousand dollars raised and appropriated.


Article 66. To see if the Town will vote to erect a suitable tablet on the old High School building to com- memorate its history and uses, and to raise and appro- priate a sum of money sufficient for the purpose.


Accepted and adopted as read. One hundred and thirty-five dollars was voted to be raised and appropri- ated for this Article.

Article 67. To see if the Town will appropriate from available funds the sum of $1,000.00 for the pur- pose of protecting the Town's interest in the continu- ance of Railroad Transportation facilities and to appoint a committee of not less than three members with authority to approve the disbursement of such funds, said Committee to be appointed by the Moderator.

Article 68. To see if the Town will vote to make the so-called Schoolhouse yard in Harwichport a public parking lot, and act fully thereon.
