Article 26. On motion of Walter S. Hopkins, Jr., it was voted that the sum of Five Thousand ($5,000.00) Dollars be raised and appropriated

for the purpose of improving a portion of Charles Street from northeast- erly of Pearl Street northeasterly toward Haverhill Street together with such sums as may be provided by the State and County under Section 34, Chapter 90 of the General Laws.
Article 27. On motion of Walter S. Hopkins, Jr., it was voted that the sum of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars be raised and appropriated for maintaining, repairing and resurfacing streets constructed under Section 34 of Chapter 90 of the General Laws.
Article 28. On motion of Walter S. Hopkins, Jr., it was voted that the Regulations relating to Job Classifications of the Wage and Hour Classification Plan be amended by striking out paragraph 10 thereof and substituting therefor, a new paragraph 10 as follows:
10. OVERTIME. All compensation for any position to which an hourly rate applies in the schedule excepting the classification of fore- man shall be made at this hourly rate for the standard work week of the respective department. Overtime at the rate of one and one-half times the regular rate shall be paid for the number of hours worked in excess of the standard work week in any given week. Men called for emergency work outside of their regular working hours shall be credited with a minimum of three hours' time. If an hourly rate is not shown on the schedule no overtime will be paid except to foremen. In case of a foreman, overtime shall be paid if the hours actually worked in any one regular work week exceed sixty. He shall be paid for all hours worked in excess of fifty at the regular hourly rate. The hourly rate shall be determined by dividing the regular weekly salary by forty. The above overtime for foreman shall apply only to emergencies which shall be defined as a set of conditions wherein the work to be performed cannot be postponed.
Article 29. On motion of Walter S. Hopkins, Jr., it was voted that the sum of Five Thousand ($5,000.00) Dollars be raised and appropriated for consulting engineering services, surveys and plans for roads, drain- age and water in connection with the New High School and also for regular construction projects of the Board of Public Works; said sum to be expended by and under the direction of the Board of Public Works.
Article 30. On motion of Walter S. Hopkins, Jr., it was voted that the sum of Fifteen Thousand ($15,000.00) Dollars be raised and appro- priated for necessary plans, surveys and engineering services for the construction of sewers to serve the New High School.
Article 31. On motion of Walter S. Hopkins, Jr., it was voted that the Town accept the report of the Board of Public Works on the laying out of a Private Way known as Evergreen Road and adopt the recom- mendations contained therein, and that the sum of Fifteen Thousand Five Hundred Fifty-five ($15,555.00) Dollars be transferred from Surplus Revenue and appropriated for the laying out and construction of said way, said sum to be apportioned as follows: Eight Thousand Four Hun- dred ($8,400.00) Dollars for Salaries and Seven Thousand One Hundred Fifty-five ($7,155.00) Dollars for expenses, and that the Town Accountant be and he hereby is authorized and instructed to transfer said sum to said account to carry out the purpose of this vote.

The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading having deter- mined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity require the laying out of a town way under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, substantially in the location hereinafter described, having complied with all requirements of law relating to notice to the owners of land thereof and of a hearing thereon, and having met at the time and place appointed for such hearing and then and there heard all persons present who desired to be heard, have laid out as a town way for the use of the town running Northwesterly from a town way now known as Charles Street to a town way now known as Wakefield Street, substantially as and in the location of the private way known as EVERGREEN ROAD, the boundaries and measurements of said way as so laid out are as follows:

This laying out so made by us we hereby report to the town for acceptance and recommend that said way shall thereafter be known as a public town way and named Evergreen Road, and that the sum of Fifteen Thousand Five Hundred Fifty-five ($15,555.00) Dollars be raised and appropriated for said laying out and for the construction of said way.
