REPORT OF OVERSEERS OF THE POOR

To the Citizens of Wilmington:

The Overseers of the Poor herewith submits its annual report,

We are still very fortunte in having our three inmates boarded at the Wakefield Town Home, which beyond a doubt is an ideal home for them.

Our farm was let for the season to Mr. Samuel P. Pike, Jr. The land that was under cultivation has been worked the past season and is now sowed to rye by him with the expectation of hiring it another year.

The farming tools, wagons, and team have been sold as we did not think it wise to pay storage on them.

The demand for help on the outside poor has increased to some extent in the last few months.

C. F. PERRY, ASA G. SHELDON, FRANK W. DAYTON, Overseers of the Poor.

There is carried on the valuation book at the present time land assessed for about $5,000, purchased at the several tax sales by the Collectors in the name of the Town; but by a provision in the law, "taxes shall, until foreclosure of the title, be assessed thereon as though the same were not so purchased." We have requested the Collector to foreclose the title on all land on which the redemption period has expired, as it is an act of folly to assess persons, who allowed their land to be sold and the redemption period of two years to expire, expecting them to pay the tax, while the fact is, the Town pays the tax and the commission on the same.

JAMES E. KELLEY, MILTON T. HOLT, J. HOWARD EAMES, Assessors of Wilmington.
