Introduction

ISTINGUISHED Men of Baltimore and of Maryland is intended to be a book of ready utility to the news- paper editor and artist.

It is issued as a practical publication to meet the modern newspaper demand for illustration.

Many of the well known families whose names appear in American history have living descendants now active in the social, commercial and political life of the State, and have contributed to the progress of Maryland and its metropolis.

Biographically, the work contains salient facts furnished by the subjects themselves.

The chief aim, however, is to put into the reference libraries of American publishers reproductions in half-tone of recent photographs of men prominent in the commercial, professional, official, political and social activity of the State of Maryland.
