"L. F." ATWOOD'S BITTERS.
THIS POTENT REMEDY;
Mild, harmless, but SURE in its operation, purifies the Blood, restores the wasted en- ergies, regulates all deranged functions, and gives new life and yigor to the whole system. It is unrivalled as a
LIVER INVIGORATOR,
and, highly concentrated, is warranted to contain more Medical properties in a 38-cent bottle than any other " INVIGORATOR " or " SARSAPARILLA " sold for a dollar. Beware of a dangerous imitation purporting to be made and signed by one Na- than Wood. Read what " L. F." Atwood says, as follows :-
"I have never sold my right nor ;interest, in my ATWOOD BITTERS to one Nathan Wood, neither have I given information as to the mode of compounding the same to sald Wood,and neither my brother or other relatives have ever had a recipe like mine; therefore 1 caution all who wish to purchase the rightful and original arti- c'e, to see that the Yellow Label on each bottle bears my signature.
Remember my Initials,""L. F. LSF. ATWOOD.
As a further safeguard, all bottles hereafter put up will have the above Trade- mark, "L. F." in Red Ink, on the Yellow ,Labels, also, in Red Ink on the White Outside Wrappers.

PREFACE.
FIVE years have elapsed since a directory of these cities has been published, and the many changes and the large increase in population during that time make it apparent that this work is greatly needed.
We take great pleasure in presenting to our patrons and the public, the LEWISTON AND AUBURN DIRECTORY for 1872- 73, the first number published by us. It is as near correct as a work of this kind can be for the first time, and a great improve- ment upon all former editions. The two places have been thoroughly canvassed by experienced agents, and great care has been taken to present a reliable work for all who may have oc- casion to use it.
The chief difficulty we have experienced in properly desig- nating the residences or places of business of citizens, has been owing to the incomplete and irregular manner in which the streets, almost without exception, are numbered. Our canvass- ers state that they often found the same number repeated two or three times on the same street; and in other cases, dispari- ties of still more perplexing character. Of course the numbers were taken as they were found.
We take this opportunity to express our thanks to all who have aided us by their patronage and otherwise, and hope that we may deserve a much larger amount in the future editions of this work. Hoping this volume will meet the wants for which it is intended, we remain
Yours, truly, GREENOUGH, JONES & Co.
