This Asylum was established by the United States Congress in 1866, for the benefit of wounded and disabled soldiers, at a cost of $200,000. It has accommodations for 1,000 persons. There is a farm of 300 acres belong- ing to the Institution, which is cultivated in part by such soldiers as are able and willing to work. Nearly eight hundred maimed and disabled soldiers from all the New England States are now receiving support at this home.

WARD No. I.
The territory between Augusta line and a line running westerly from Kennebec river on the southerly line of the railroad to Winthrop street, thence on the southerly line of Winthrop street to the line of the town of Man- chester, shall constitute Ward One.
WARD No. II.
The territory between Ward One and a line running westerly from Kennebec river across Water street to Central street, thence on the south line of Central street and of the road leading westerly and a continuation of the same line to the town of Manchester, shall constitute Ward Two.
WARD No. III.
The territory between Ward Two and a line running westerly from Kennebec river on the North line of " Clark's wharf" to and across Water street on the south line of Temple street to and across Second street to Chest- nut street, thence on the south line of Chestnut street to the head of said street, thence southerly to the north line of the Vaughan tract and by said north line to the line of the town of Manchester, shall constitute Ward Three.
WARD No. IV.
