The Professorship of Modern Languages dates from 1826, when Mrs. Sarah Bowdoin Dearborn bequeathed one thousand dollars for that pur- pose. The chair was more fully endowed, and received the name of its first occupant in 1881.

NATURAL AND REVEALED RELIGION
The Collins Professorship of Natural and Revealed Religion was estab- lished in 1847. The endowment having proved insufficient to maintain a full professorship, its income, by a decree of the Supreme Judicial Court in 1908, is applied to the support of a Graduate Secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association of the College.
