ALVAH GARDNER STONE,
Representative from the second district of Lenawee county, was born in Charle- ton, Worcester county, Massachusetts, March 2, 1853, of revolutionary stock, his great grandfather being one of the famous minute men and captain in the revo- lutionary army. Mr. Stone has been a resident of Michigan thirty years and his early education was obtained in Massachusetts, supplemented by common school course at Medina, Michigan. He is married and has been a farmer since 1870, holding the offices of school inspector and justice of the peace in his township.

In politics, a strong republican, he was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 3,346 to 2,935 for A. S. Grandy, democratic candidate, and 148 for D. H. Warren, prohibition candidate.
HENRY STUMPENHUSEN,
Representative from the second district of Washtenaw county, was born in Ypsi- lanti, Washtenaw county, Michigan, August 15, 1843, of German-Irish parentage. At the age of three years he removed with his parents to a farm in Ypsilanti town- ship, where he has since resided. He received his education in the district and union schools of Ypsilanti and taught school for two years. At the age of twenty- nine he married Florence C. Dansingburg of Augusta, in the same county. Two children, a son and a daughter, are the fruits of this marriage, both residing in' their native town. Mr. Stumpenhusen has held many positions of trust; has been several times a candidate for township office but owing to the strong republican sentiment existing in his township was never elected. Mr. Stumpenhusen was elected to the legislature of 1899-1900 and served his constituents faithfully dur- ing the regular and three extra sessions. On November 6, 1900, was re-elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,406 to 1,889 for Daniel R. Shier, republican candidate, and 608 for George S. Rawson.
WILLIAM D. TOTTEN,
Representative from Antrim district, comprising the counties of Antrim, Char- levoix and Kalkaska, was born near New London, Oneida county, New York, October 17, 1858. He removed with his parents to Michigan in 1865, remaining in this state until 1872 when he returned to New York State. His early education was obtained in the district schools. He was a canal driver on the Erie Canal for five years, when he returned to Michigan, locating on a farm in Kalkaska county. He taught school four years, during which time he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1880 and has since been a practicing lawyer. In 1886 he was elected prose- cuting attorney and was re-elected in 1888. He was admitted to practice before supreme court of the United States March 3, 1897. Mr. Totten is married and has always been a staunch republican. He was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 6,136 to 1,914 for James E. Wagley, democratic candidate.
HENRY B. VANDERCOOK,
Representative from the first district of Kent county, was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan, August 3, 1861, and received his education in the common school at Allegan. At the age of fifteen years he entered the monument business which he has successfully pursued for twenty years. He removed to Grand Rapids in 1891 where he established the Grand Rapids Monument Company, of which he is president and half owner. By home study and a membership in Kent Law Club of Grand Rapids he was admitted to practice by Judge Adsit in 1895. Mr. Van- dercook is married and a member of several secret societies, among which are the Maccabees, Court of Honor and Modern Woodmen. He has always been a strong republican and was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902, on the general legisla- tive ticket, by a vote of 11,314 to 10,027 for Paul Marrin, Jr., highest democratic candidate.

JACOB J. VAN ZOEREN,
Representative from the first district of Kent county, was born in Vriesland, Michigan, May 3, 1855, and lived on his father's farm until twenty-four years of age. His education was obtained in the district schools. After farming success- fully two years he removed to western Kansas and engaged in stock raising and mercantile business. Returning to Michigan in 1889 he located in Grand Rapids. where lie has since been successfully engaged in mercantile business. Mr. Van Zæren is married and has always been a staunch republican, being elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 from the first district of Kent, on the general legislative ticket, by a vote of 11,280 to 10,027 for Paul Marrin, Jr., highest democratic ·candidate.
THEODOSIUS WADE,
Representative from the second district of Allegan county, was born in Ganges township, Allegan county, Michigan, November 14, 1858. His education was ob- tained in the common school and Douglas high school. He taught school two years, reading law in the meantime, until he entered the University of Michigan, from which he graduated in 1888, receiving a diploma as LL. B. After spending some time in travel, he opened a law office in Fennville, holding continuously the office of village counsel. Mr. Wade is married, and in partnership with his brother, is an extensive fruit grower and shipper. He was formerly a democrat, but is now a republican, and was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,565 to 1,446 for Charles Knobloch, democratic candidate.
EDWARD A. WALKER,
Representative from the first district of Genesee county, was born in Lee, Cal- houn county, Michigan, October 20, 1860. His education was obtained in the district school, and at the age of seventeen years he went to Muskegon, where he worked in a mill, and later engaged in the lumber trade. Mr. Walker was mar- ried in 1883, and removed to Genesee county in 1887, where he has since been a successful farmer, contractor and builder. In politics, he is a strong republican, having been elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,960 to 1,969 for Frank J. Browne, democratic candidate.
NEWTON O. WARD,
Representative from Mecosta county, was born in Sheffield, Ontario, November 8, 1854, coming to Michigan in 1862. His education was received in the public schools, At the early age of fifteen years he was thrown upon his own resources by the sudden death of his father, and began teaching school, which profession he followed six years, after which he entered the hardware business in which he has since been successfully engaged. Mr. Ward was married in 1876, and has held numerous positions of trust and different offices in his township, having been superintendent of schools, supervisor and township clerk. He was census enum- erator in 1880-1890, and has been postmaster under President Mckinley. In poli- tics, a strong republican, he was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,789 to 1,418 for Joseph H. Kilbourne, democratic candidate.

I. ROY WATERBURY.
Representative from the second district of Oakland county, was born October 2, 1869, on the farm in Highland township, Oakland county, where he now resides. His early education was acquired in the public schools of that community. He was married in 1892, and has always followed the occupation of farming. Politi- cally he is a republican, and has served his township in the offices of clerk, treasurer and supervisor. He was elected to the house of 1899-1900, and re-elected to the house of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,909 to 2,424 for William S. Seaver, demo- cratic candidate.
JAMES E. WETER,
Representative from the first district of Macomb county, was born at Palmyra, Lenawee county, Michigan, April 9, 1857. His parents were farmers, and his early life was spent on a farm, receiving his education at the district schools, supple- mented by two years at Adrian college. After leaving school he farmed for nine years in Lenawee county, and then engaged in the wholesale egg business at Richmond, Macomb county, under the firm name of Weter, Fanning & Co., which he still continues. Is also president of the Macomb County Savings Bank, of Richmond, and vice president of the Consolidated Hay-Bale Tie Company, of Richmond. Was elected to the house of 1899-1900, and re-elected to the house of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,059 to 1,958 for Edgar B. Harris, democratic candidate, and 53 for Charles Woodruff, prohibition candidate.

CHARLES P. WHEELER,
Representative from St. Joseph county, was born in Three Rivers, Michigan, August 21, 1865. His education was obtained at the Michigan Military Academy, from which he graduated to enter upon a course of study at the University of Michigan. He is married, and has large farming interests which he personally superintends. At the outbreak of the Spanish-American war he tendered his services, and went to the front as captain of Co. K, 33d Michigan infantry. Mr. Wheeler is a strong republican, and was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 3,287 to 3,182 for Herbert W. Hagerman, democratic candidate, and 90 for Edwin P. Young, prohibition candidate.
BYRON C. WHITAKER,
Representative from the first district of Washtenaw county, was born in Yates county, New York, May 30, 1835, and came to Michigan when very young. His education was obtained in the common schools and union school at Ypsilanti. He was a successful farmer forty years, and also engaged in the lumber and hard- ware business for ten years. Mr. Whitaker is unmarried. He is a democrat, and has held the offices of supervisor, justice of the peace and township treasurer, and was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,767 to 768 for A. J. Sawyer. republican anti-Judson candidate, and to 2,123 for G. S. Wheeler, republican Jud- son candidate.

GEORGE W. WILLIS,
Representative from the first district of Bay county, was born in St. Charles, . Michigan, August 18, 1859. His education was obtained in the public schools and Parson's business college in Saginaw. Graduating from the latter institution when seventeen years of age, he entered the employ of Eddy & Avery, where he remained sixteen years, since which time he has been a contractor. Mr. Willis is married, and has served as alderman and member of the board of education, and held the office of deputy game warden for nine years. In politics, a strong republican, he was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,795 to 2,759 for John Donovan, democratic candidate, and 139 for Brent Harding, prohibition candidate.
MARK WILLIS,
Representative from the second district of Sanilac county, was born in Somerset, England, in 1832, where his early education was obtained. In 1846 he emigrated to Canada, where he remained nine years, coming to Lexington, Sanilac county, in 1855. He became thoroughly imbued with the spirit of patriotism and liberty, which was then agitating the country, and has always been a strong republican, advocating the principles of his party in many localities, through a dozen cam- paigns. Mr. Willis is married, and has been a successful farmer forty years of his life, ten of which he has also been engaged in the lumber business. He has held the office of highway commissioner, and was school inspector ten years. He was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 1,810 to 1,091 for Fred Viets, democratic candidate.
HENRY D. WRIGHT,
Representative from Isabella county, was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, October 15, 1857, and obtained his education in the common schools of that city. In 1882 he settled in Broomfield township, Isabella county, and engaged in farm- ing and lumbering. Mr. Wright is married, and has held the offices of highway commissioner, township clerk, supervisor and treasurer. He is a strong republi- "can, and was elected to the legislature of 1901-1902 by a vote of 2,955 to 2,047 for Benjamin Wing, democratic candidate.
