RATES OF FARE. Authorized by City Ordinance for Carriages, Express Wagons, Drays, Etc.


For carrying passengers at the following prices and 110 more, viz .: From 6 o'clock a m to 11 o'clock p m, a distance of not exceeding one and one-half miles by the most direct route, the sum of twenty-five cents for each passenger, and for a greater distance than one and one-half miles the sum of fifty cents for each passenger, and between the hours of 11 o'clock p m and 5 o'clock a m, double fare may be charged and collected, and the time of starting with the pas- senger shall be the time governing the charge there- for. Provided, That no charge shall be made for car- rying children of the age of six years when accom- panied by a paying passenger, and that between the ages of six and ten years only half fare shall be col- lected for children accompanied by a paying pas- senger, and each paying passenger shall be entitled to have carried by such conveyance, without charge. any baggage not exceeding fifty pounds in weight, and for each piece of baggage weighing over fifty pounds, twenty-five cents may be charged and col- lected. For the use of any public or licensed vehicle by the hour, for no more than four persons, and with the privilege of going from place to place. and stop- ping as often as required, one dollar for the first hour and seventy-five cents for each additional hour or fraction thereof, and for each additional person twenty-five cents extra, between the hours of 5 o'clock a m and 11 o'clock p m. and double such prices between 11 o'clock p m and 5 o'clock a m, and when employed by the day not exceeding five dollars shall be charged for the use of any such vehicle. But no employment by the day shall consist of more than ten hours, nor last later than 9 o'clock p m.


This ordinance shall apply to any vehicle which may at any time be placed for hire upon any stand, and to all omnibuses, carriages and vehicles kept by any person or persons for the purpose of conveying pas- sengers for hire to or from steamboats and pas- senger depots and other places within the City of Saginaw.


Draymen shall be entitled to demand and receive of their customers as compensation for their services the fol- lowing sums and no more: Where one animal is

employed in hauling the dray used, two blocks dis- tance and under, twenty-five cents; two blocks dis- tance and under four blocks, thirty-five cents ; under three-quarters of a mile, fifty cents ; three-quarters of a mile and to the extent of the city limits, seventy- five cents and no more, except when two men are re- quired, when it shall be lawful to charge twenty-five cents per hour, or fraction thereof, for such addi- tional man; and when two animals are employed in hauling the dray fifteen cents additional may be charged and collected. Provided. That no drayman shall make any more trips or loads than is actually necessary for any customer, and the distance for which he may charge shall be computed by the shortest route between the place of receiving and delivering the drayed articles or goods.
