to Williams INTRODUCTORY.

It is with pleasure we are at last enabled to place before the citizens of Raleigh City the result of our long and wearisome labor, in the shape of a Directory and Business Record, which we flatter ourselves surpasses anything of the kind that has yet been introduced to this community. The labor of compiling the work has been severe and ex- pensive, and we confidently trust will prove satisfactory to the citizens of Raleigh. When we undertook this work we were determined to give Raleigh a book her people need not be ashamed of; and whether we have succeeded in our object or not, we leave for our readers to determine.

We will not pretend that our book is free from errors, as the variety, extent, and quality of the work necessary to be done render perfection impossible; yet we do claim to have spared no effort to render it complete.

To the citizens who have so kindly aided us, we extend our grateful thanks, and must say that the large majority received us cordially, and gave the information asked for cheerfully.

Our book is completed, and to the citizens of the City of Raleigh we confidently trust it, knowing that they will appreciate its merits and deal kindly with its faults.

Very respectfully,

TURNER, MCLEAN & LOSEE
