PREFACE
Greenville, North Carolina, is located in the midst of the bright leaf tobacco belt and is a live, progressive, wide-awake business center. The town owns the water works, sewer, and electric light plant, has many miles of granolithic sidewalks and the main street is well paved from the depots through the business part of the town.
HEALTH-The health conditions of this part of North Carolina are unsurpassed. The climate is as good as any one could wish.
SCHOOLS-The school system in the town of Greenville is one of the best to be found in North Carolina. The town is now erecting a handsome high school building that will be worth, guilding and grounds, $75,000. Connected with the public school system of the town is a Model School in which four grades of children are taught by the Critic teachers of the Training School.
Located in the town of Greenville is the East Carolina Teachers College, a state institution that has but one purpose in view, viz .: the training of young men and women for efficient service in the public schools of North Carolina.
The public school system of the County of Pltt is one of the best county systems in the State. Each year makes a decided advancement forward in the rural schools of this county. The County of Pitt has an All Time Health Officer who gives his entire services to the public schools and general health conditions of the county.
RAILROADS-The town of Greenville is situated at the intersec- tion of the Norfolk-Southern and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroads. There are ten passenger trains passing through Greenville each day, giving ample accommodations to the traveling public. The town of Greenville, situated on Tar River, is touched by the Inland Deeper Water-ways work of the Federal Government, Tar River having been dredged up to Greenville.
HOTELS-There are two good hotels in our town. The last one erected, The Proctor, cost over $800,000. If you come to our town we can take care of you.
GOOD ROADS -- There has been spent, and is being spent, in Pitt County over $200,000 in improving the public roads. Greenville is now easily accessible to every part of Pitt County and the adjoining coun- ties. This makes the rich farming lands of this county in easy access to the markets, thus making this county one of the most desirable counties in Eastern Carolina for progressive farmers.
The soil and climate of Pitt County are well adapted to raising corn, cotton, tobacco, potatoes, trucking crops, fruits and vegetables Stock and poultry raising should become one of the chief industries of our people. The soil is fertile and easily tilled. In no place can a man get a bigger return for his work upon the farm than here. The climate allows farm work for twelve months in the ear. The rainfall is abundant and well distributed throughout the year, thus giving nei- ther floods nor drought.
