Greenville Now Has Population of 9,059

Census Just Completed Shows Gain of 3,287 Since Government Figures in 1920

(Special to Daily News)

Greenville, Nov. 17-The census taking to oscertain the population of Green- ville, which has been in progress for several weeks under the supervision of an expert in this work, was completed today, showing the city to have 9,059 people living within the confines of the corporate limits. These figures do not include the several hundred people that are here each year for three or four months, engaged in the tobacco industry.

Of this total there are 5,183 whites and 3,871 negroes. This is the first ac- curate census taken since 1920 at which time Greenville proved to have a popu- lation of 5,772, making a total gain within a period of five years of 3,287, which increase is principally among the whites.
