Church Organized January 7, 1817

Building Dedicated January 6, 1822

Oldest organization of Presbyterian faith on North Carolina coast. Oldest church building in New Bern. Cornerstone laid, June 9, 1819; original lost. Present cornerstone laid January 6, 1922. Architecture follows design of Sir Christopher Wren. Used as hospital by Federal troops during Civil War. Re- conditioned in 1866. High pulpit removed. A recess made in wall, to which in 1885 was added a handsome wood arch. Original box pews were removed in 1890. Pulpit rail (without reading desk) and one door preserved from original high pulpit. These with markings on floor and wall followed in restor- ation to original height, size and substantially accurate details. Communion table restored, being one-half of the original with minor repairs.

Manse back of church used since 1842. Sunday School building (main auditorium), adjoining church, built 1858.

Visitors cordially welcomed at all times.
