Hospitals

Exceptionally favored from a standpoint of health, yet Goldsboro and Wayne County are equipped with a modern hospital. It was rated in 1940 as the leading hospital in the state for its observance of Ameri- can Hospital Week in which all the community took part. Men of high rating in the medical profession are on the staff of the Goldsboro Hos- pital.

In addition to this hospital maintained by Goldsboro and Wayne County, the Eastern branch of the State Orthopedic Hospital is located in Goldsboro, and two miles from the City is the State Hospital for Ne- gro Insane, more than 2,300 patients being treated there annually.

Recreation

¿ A municipal stadium as a part of the city's new recreational center was occupied first during 1940. This has a seating capacity of 2,500 and on the playing field are a baseball diamond and a football gridiron. Adjacent are several acres on which are built tennis courts and softball diamonds, and a modern golf course. In Herman Park are modern ten- nis courts and nearby on the Kinston Highway is the Goldsboro Horse

GOLDSBORO

Show Association's ring where two annual horse shows are staged, one in the Spring and one in the Fall.

Fifteen miles southeast of Goldsboro is located Camp Tuscarora, a Boy Scout camp which serves the four counties of Wayne, Duplin, John- ston and Sampson. The camp is used principally in the summer, al- though Scouts spend week-ends in camping through the year at various periods.

Wayne County Memorial Community Building

City Hall

The City of Goldsboro houses all the branches of city government, except the Street Department and Fire Department, in the municipal building on North Center street. The Mayor, City Manager, Tax Office, Police Department, and Water Department have offices there. The mayor and five aldermen, one from each ward, are elected for office each two years.

NORTH CAROLINA

Cotton Market

Goldsboro is known over a large area of Eastern Carolina for its cotton market, with sales mounting in volume each year. A number of cotton gins serve Wayne County and from them the cotton growers bring thousands of bales of their cotton to Goldsboro for sale on the open mar- ket or for storage in two large brick bonded warehouses. These storage warehouses, both of which are bonded by the Federal and State ware- house systems, protect cotton from the weather and hold it in store for the full market value.

Goldsboro is a growing city. Its facilities are among the finest for continued industrial and agricultural expansion. Schools, churches, libraries, modern business institutions, progressive merchants, civic leaders and public officials are united to keep the city at the front in all worthwhile endeavors.

Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce

Today Goldsboro is an ideal location for more industry. The diver- sified industries now located here are in a flourishing condition. The combinations of climate, health, hospitality, and other assets will produce a steady growth in population and wealth, justifying the judgment of investors and home-seekers who come here for permanent location.

The Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce has dedicated itself to the cause of building a Greater Goldsboro. It seeks to promote trade events, agriculture through better marketing, industry and better business rela- tions, as well as to serve as a clearing house and general bureau of in- formation. Its interest is Goldsboro's betterment.

Write or wire our office in Hotel Goldsboro for detailed information about Goldsboro. Join us in our effort to build a Greater Goldsboro. Ad- dress your inquiry to: Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce, Hotel Goldsboro, Goldsboro, N. C.
