The Greatest Do Advertising Va
A conspicuous and attractive advertisement can be purchased in any Baldwin directory at an extremely reasonable price. When making up his budget for publicity the wise advertiser will remem- ber the many special features of Baldwin service. He will take into consideration the large home circulation, the convenient ar- rangement of the display space, the excellence of the printing and binding and the number of times the directory is actually referred to each day of the year.
The primary purpose of the Baldwin organization is, of course, the supplying of accurate and reliable directory information promptly and regularly at the lowest possible cost consistent with good service. For this reason it is possible to price the advertising space far below the amount which would be charged on the basis of value if the book were primarily an advertising medium. There is no advertising medium in the South today which offers as much actual advertising value per dollar invested as Baldwin city directories.
EVERY BALDWIN DIRECTORY MUST CONFORM STRICTLY TO THE SPECIFICATIONS PREPARED BY BALDWIN DIRECTORY CO., INC.
The Baldwin organization is ever on the alert for suggestions and recommendations which may increase the value of its service. At all times it co-operates with the local Chamber of Commerce, Merchants Association, newspapers and commercial organizations. Its work is carefully planned and painstakingly executed.
All information supplied is authentic; a double-check system is used to insure accuracy. Trained census managers and enumer- ators check and re-check all data which appears in the city direc- tory. The information is secured by a house-to-house canvass of the territory covered.
THE HOUSEHOLDERS' SUPPLEMENT
The Householders' Supplement is carefully prepared to meet the requirements of the home. It contains a complete business directory of the city, a civic section with full-page announcements and photographs of the larger churches, clubs, libraries, schools, public buildings and civic institutions and a list of nationally advertised brands of merchandise with the name and address of the local agent or distributor.

Every advertisement appearing in a Baldwin City Directory will be found also in the Householders' Supplement. The distribu- tion plan for the supplement is thoroughly worked out and each copy is personally presented by a representative of the civic and commercial organizations of the city. The homes receiving copies of the supplement are carefully selected and there is very little dead circulation ; almost every copy is referred to daily. The live circu- lation of a Baldwin directory advertisement is actually from five to ten times that of an advertisement appearing in an average city directory, and the Baldwin distribution is primarily in the home.
UNIQUE
DISTINCTIVE ABCD A BALDWIN CITY DIRECTORY
SPECIAL FEATURES
In addition to all of the regular departments usually found in city directories, Baldwin directory service offers many exclusive features. Some of these are as follows:
1. All home owners are designated in the alphabetical resident directory and also in the street guide.
2. The number of children under 16 is shown after the name of the head of each family.
3. A numerical telephone directory is given.
4. A telephone guide arranged by streets is included.
5. Each nationally advertised brand of merchandise is listed under the proper business classification, with the name and address of the local agent or distributor.
6. Full page announcements, with photographs when possible, of all the larger churches, clubs, lodges, schools, libraries and other civic institutions are included in a special civic section.
7. The directory covers not only the city itself but also the smaller settlements and towns in the territory im- mediately adjacent.
8. The book is beautifully and durably bound in imi- tation leather.
9. Directory stands are installed in all public places so that the general public may have access to the directory at all times without cost.
10. An exact census is taken of each community and the directory gives the population.
11. The advertising is conveniently arranged to give the subscriber and the advertiser the best possible service.
12. A Householders' Supplement is issued in each city for the use of individuals in their homes. This gives the Baldwin directory a circulation five to ten times greater than the average directory.

The Asheville Advocate ASHEVILLE. N. C.
January 1, 1935
Mr. Robert Morton Baldwin 87 Patton Avenue Asheville, North Carolina
Dear Mr. Baldwin:
I am more than pleased with the public response to the newspaper announcement that 3000 copies of the Householders ' Supplement of the 1935 City Directory will be presented to the homes of Asheville and surrounding trade territory by the Ashe- ville Merchants Association. Already they have received several hundred letters requesting that copies of this useful and at- tractive volume be reserved.
The Householders' Supplement will serve two purposes: (1) It will furnish to the homes a well-arranged book of miscellaneous information and a complete buyers' guide of the city, which will be cherished in later years as a 1935 souvenir of Asheville. (2) It will supply to the business firms a tremendously valuable medium of advertising at a very low cost. It is my opinion that through the supplement you have solved the difficult prob- lem of raising sufficient money to pay for an accurate and com- plete city directory regularly. Business men are not reluctant to spend money for something of real worth.
I was glad that the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and the Asheville Merchants Association endorsed the Baldwin directory. You have many unique features which will greatly increase the usefulness of the book. I find that most firms are particularly interested in your designation of home owners in the resident di- rectory and also in the street guide, listing of the number of children under 16 in each family, numerical telephone directory and street telephone guide.
The presentetion of the supplement at each home by a personal representative of the Merchants Association will greatly increase the public interest in the directory and I am confident that next year we will have thousands of directory enthusiasts among the householdors ,of Asheville. I am more than pleased to be associated with you in the publication of a directory of this character.
Very truly yours,
A. Thomas
