EXPLANATIONS.
I desire to make a few explanations which will be of as- sistance in understanding how to use this book. There are several suburban towns which I have included which have no street numbers. In Coneville the residence can be designated only by the name of the street. In Jacksonville the name of that suburb is the only way its inhabitants can be located. In that part of Warnersville which lies beyond the limits I was compelled to put down "Warnersville beyond limits." In Jonesboro I numbered all the houses on the right even numbers, beginning with 2 and running 4, 6, 8, etc., to end. The houses on the left I numbered with odd numbers, beginning with 1 and running 3,5, 7, 9, etc. So for instance, No. 14 e Market, Jonesboro, means the 7th house on the right hand side of East Market, beginning at the end of the corporate limits. Of course such designations as "rear of No. - - street" will be easily understood. I also wish to call attention to the fact that in giving a man's name, if he is married, I have placed immediately after it in parenthesis the name or initials of his wife. In giving names of members of firms I have placed the firm's name in parenthesis after the in- dividual name. The names of firms are followed by the names of the individual members of the firms. Widows' names are usually followed by the names of their husbands before their death. The city numbers run up to 1099, then instead of going on with 1100, they jump to 2000, run up to 2099 and then jump to 3000.
