The foregoing report contains a synopsis of our financial transactions for the past official year, which we respectfully submit to the inhabitants of Alton. The expense of repair- ing the highways exceeds the tax raised by the sum of $424.65. A new road machine has been purchased at an ex- pense of $250 00. Unfortunately we have had several fires in the past year, and the expense of maintaining the fire de- partment exceeds last year by $115 00. New hose has also been purchased at an expense of $152.00. The town debt has been reduced $2,305.79.

Respectfully submitted,

LEWIS P. VARNEY,

Selectmen of

HARRY MORRISON,

WALDO C VARNEY,

Alton.

We, the undersigned, having examined the foregoing account, find it properly vouched and correctly cast. WILLIS P. EMERSON, CHARLES H. DOWNING, Auditors.
