To the Inhabitants of the Town of Salem, in the County of


Rockingham, in said State, qualified to vote in town affairs:


You are hereby notified to meet at the town house, in said town, on Tuesday, the eighth day of March, next, at six-thirty of the clock in the forenoon, to act upon the fol- lowing subjects:


ARTICLE 1. To choose all necessary town officers for the ensuing year.


ARTICLE 2. To take the sense of the qualified voters whether the alterations and amendments to the Constitu- tion proposed by the Constitutional Convention shall be approved.


ARTICLE 3. To raise such sums of money as may be necessary to defray town charges for the ensuing year, and make appropriation for same.


ARTICLE 4. To see if the town will vote to raise any more money for the repairs of highways than the law requires.


ARTICLE 5. To hear the reports of agents, auditors, committees or officers heretofore chosen and pass any vote relating thereto.


ARTICLE 6. To see if the town will vote to authorize the town treasurer to hire, with the approval of the selectmen, such sums of money as may be needed for general purposes, in anticipation of taxes.


ARTICLE 7. By request. To see if the town will vote to instruct the selectmen to execute bonds and such other papers as may be necessary in behalf of said town, to secure the issue of new stock certificates to replace those lost in the Enoch Taylor estate.


ARTICLE 8. By request. To see if the town will vote to

raise the sum of one hundred seventy-five ($175) dollars, or any part thereof, for the use of Ernest W. Young Post, No. 63, American Legion, to be expended in the observance of Memorial Day in the year 1921.


ARTICLE 9. By request. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise, above the sum required by law, for the support of the Salem Free Public Library, for the year 1921.


ARTICLE 10. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars, or any part thereof for the improvement and maintenance of the common.


ARTICLE 11. By request. To see if the town will vote to authorize the selectmen to contract for lighting the streets for a period not exceeding five years, and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 12. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars, or any part thereof, to help Hose Company No. 2 procure a siren whistle.


ARTICLE 13. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of four hundred forty ($440) dollars, to place a siren whistle on Hose House No. 1.


ARTICLE 14. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of two hundred fifty ($250) dollars, to purchase chemicals for the Hose Companies.


ARTICLE 15. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of one thousand ($1,000) dollars, for the pur- pose of erecting a suitable monument on the common near the present town hall with proper inscriptions in memory of our men who served in the various wars of our country, and choose a committee to carry the same into effect.


ARTICLE 16. By request. To see if the town will vote to exempt from taxation the buildings and machinery of the Merrimack Wood Heel Company for a period of years, not exceeding ten.


ARTICLE 17. By request. To see if the town will vote to accept from the Merrimack Wood Heel Company a strip of

land one hundred sixty-five (165) feet long, and extend Central Street from the line of Mrs. Emma Hadley to a point beyond the wood heel factory.


ARTICLE 18. By request. To see if the town will vote to accept Central Street and raise money to repair the same.


ARTICLE 19. By request. To see if the town will vote to accept the road leading from Milville Road to the residence of Eva M. Corliss.


ARTICLE 20. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the town house, grade the grounds, install a heating plant and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 21. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise a sum not exceeding seven hundred fifty ($750) dollars for the employment of police officers.


ARTICLE 22. By request. To see if the town will vote to extend the water main from its present point of end on Mil- ville Street, so as to supply the group of nine houses near the junction of Milville and Lake Streets, and raise money for the same in such manner as may seem most advisable.


ARTICLE 23. By request. To see if the town will vote to extend its water main from Point A to the No. 8 schoolhouse, thence to the place of the late John Brista, and raise money for the same by any legal way as may come before the meeting.


ARTICLE 24. By request. To see if the town will vote to install an electric light on Lawrence Street at Gage's ledge, and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 25. By request. To see if the town will vote to place three more electric lights on Granite Avenue and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 26. By request. To see if the town will vote to extend the street lights to the Charles G. Kelley Corner on the Canobie Lake Road and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 27. By request. To see if the town will vote to extend its street lights from a place where they now end, on Rockingham Road, so-called, to Cluff's Crossing; thence to the No. 8 schoolhouse, and raise money for the same in any legal way as may come before the meeting.

ARTICLE 29. By request. To see if the town will vote to place three street lights between the residence of Warren E. Bodwell and the residence of Stanwood T. Stewart, and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 30. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars, to repair the road from Foster's Corner to the turnpike.


ARTICLE 31. By request. To see if the town will vote to repair Granite Avenue, and raise money for same.


ARTICLE 32. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of three hundred ($300) dollars, to repair the road from the Fairmount House to the residence of Ezra B. Hall.


ARTICLE 33. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars, to repair the road from No. 8 schoolhouse to Cluff's Crossing.


ARTICLE 34. By request. To see if the town will vote to repair, with cinders, Lawrence Street, commencing at the end of the macadam road, and raise one hundred ($100) dollars, for the same.


ARTICLE 35. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of one hundred ($100) dollars, to repair Spring Street.


ARTICLE 36. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of three hundred ($300) dollars, or any part thereof, to repair Wheeler Avenue.


ARTICLE 37. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise a sum not exceeding four hundred ($400) dollars, for the repair of the highway known as Clinton Street at Salem Depot.

To see if the town will vote to appropriate one hundred ($100) dollars, or any part thereof, to paint "Highway Center Stripes" on street com- mencing at the danger sign, now located near the residence of Harold Titcomb on Main Street, and continuing to point of danger sign now located near residence of E. E. Noyes on Policy Street, Depot Village, one at Ewins' Corner at Center Village, and any other point deemed advisable by Board of Selectmen.


ARTICLE 41. By request. To see if the town will vote to repair the roads leading from Broadway to the state line, near the residence of F. X. Caron, with cinders or some suitable material, and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 42. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of two thousand ($2,000) dollars, or any part thereof, to repair the highway from Canobie Lake Depot to North Salem.


ARTICLE 43. By request. To see if the town will vote to macadamize the road leading from the macadam road near Pine Grove Cemetery to the State line at Wilson's Corner, and raise money for the same.


ARTICLE 44. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise two thousand ($2,000) dollars, or any part thereof, to resurface Pelham Road from Main Street to the residence of E. J. Manor.


ARTICLE 45. By request. To see if the town will vote to raise the sum of one thousand ($1,000) dollars, or any part thereof, for repairing the road and building culverts on Milville Road, so-called, from Lake Street to Main Street at the Depot.


ARTICLE 46. By request. To see if the town will vote to accept from George M. Austin and the estate of John Austin, the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars, as a per-

petual fund, the interest to be expended in the care of the John Austin lot No. 246 in Pine Grove Cemetery.
