HERBERT E. COLBY, Auditors.

EDWARD W. HUNT,

Annual Report of the Board of Education.

To the inhabitants of the Town of Danville : -

The Board of Education would respectfully submit the following report of the schools under their charge for the school year, ending March 1, 1892.

NORTH SCHOOL.

The North School for the entire school year was under the care and instruction of Miss Lilla B. Heath, of Raymond, who was formerly a student of the Robinson Seminary of Exeter. Miss Heath is a bright progressive teacher and one calculated to win the love and respect of her pupils.

Very good progress was made by the pupils in their studies, and the school, although small in numbers, is one of the best in town.

CENTRE SCHOOL.

The Centre School for the entire school year of 30 weeks was taught by Miss Henrietta M. Peaslee, of Danville, who has taught this school for several years past. Miss Peaslee maintained her ormer high standard of instruction in the school, and gave good satisfaction to the Board of Education by the methods employed and the results obtained. This school, although small in numbers, is entitled to be classed among the very best of common, un- graded schools.

SOUTH SCHOOL NO. 2.

At the beginning of the school year it was deemed advisable to divide the South School and establish a new school for the larger and more advanced pupils thereof. Accordingly some 24 pupils were

18

organized into a school, and the smaller hall in the town building secured for their accommodation, and Miss Olivette B. Colbath, of Boston, Mass., installed as teacher. Miss Colbath was an ex- perienced teacher and the school prospered well under her charge. At the close of the spring term of 12 weeks the appearance of the school was such as to justify its being continued through the year.

At the commencement of the fall term on account of failing health, Miss Colbath could not return to the school, and Miss Edna Hanchett, of Westfield, Mass., was engaged as teacher. Miss Hanchett is a graduate of the Westfield Normal School, and is a good teacher and was successful in her management of the school. Under her instruction the pupils made very good progress in their studies. We have designated this as South School No. 2.

SOUTH SCHOOL NO. I.

This school is composed of all the pupils of the old South School, who were either too young in years, or not far enough advanced in their studies to be admitted to the new No. 2 school. For the entire school year it was taught by Miss Annie A. Hartford, of Richmond, Maine, who had taught the undivided school of the previous year. Miss Hartford has the rare faculty of easily teach- ing small pupils, securing their attention and getting them deeply interested in their studies. The school for the year was a good one, and did credit to Miss Hartford's careful and thorough in- struction.

For the year we think the record of all our schools is a good one.

CHARLES P. GRIFFIN, Board WOODBURY D. COLLINS, of

CHARLES H. SARGENT, Education.
