FRANK SMITH, E. A. WOODWARD,
S. R. AMADON.
Selectmen of Lancaster.
REPORT OF SELECTMEN.
The business of the town this year perhaps has been of an uneventual character. Owing to the good condition of the roads in the spring we have been able to keep them in good repair for less than the appropriation and not having deep snows or bad blows the expense of breaking roads has been light. In some other branches of the town's business we have thought necessary to exceed the appropriations but hope the showings on the whole will be satisfactory to the tax payers of the town.

SELECTMEN'S ESTIMATES.
Below we give an estimate of the various sums of money that will be needed to carry on the affairs of the town for the ensuing year. As we see no immediate need of more ma- cadam streets and the contract for the supply of crushed rock having expired, we make no recommendation for an appropriation in that line, but leave the whole matter with the voters of the town. For comparison we give the amounts raised last year beside our recommendations.

We have a less amount of money in the treasury than last year, owing to the large amount we have paid on the new Town & Masonic building and Connecticut river bridge but other assets compare favorably with previous years.

NIGHT POLICE.
Although there was no appropriation made for paying a night police the selectmen thought there was too much prop- erty at stake to risk its safety without a night watch and have employed a man for the purpose, trusting it will meet the approval of the tax payers.
