A true copy of Warrant-ATTEST :
ALICE O. F. YOUNG,
GEORGE L. DEMING, School Board.
FRED C. PARDY,
Report of the School Board.
The following is the report of the School Board for the year ending Feb. 15th, 1906, which has been one of quiet progress and marked success.
Perfection we claim for none; but our schools have been such, in most cases, that it would be hard to criticise them unfavorably. The amount of money placed in our hands has enabled us to retain the services of our own teachers and by the slight increase in wages which we have been enabled to pay has given encouragement to more experienced teachers from abroad to apply for positions in our schools.
We believe it to be money well invested. We wish there was a greater interest taken by every voter (male and female), not only in the welfare of our children and schools ; but in the future welfare of our Nation ; for the future of that Nation depends upon the children, not only the children of true and loyal American citizens; but upon those of "The stranger within our gate," for they are coming to number more than our own and if we wish our Union preserved and governed by Americans we must educate this foreign element as good American citizens.
The only place to do this is in our schools for they will not learn it in their own homes.
We have maintained 29 terms of school in 11 houses, amounting to 292 weeks of school.
Besides the usual small repairs necessary we have thorough- ly repaired outside and in of division 4 house. Division 8 house has been thoroughly repaired on the inside and a new blackboard placed in the school room. This house should be painted on the outside the coming year. Division 9 house has had a new stove and blackboard, and been whitewashed and papered. This house should have a new floor as soon as possible. Division 10 house has been whitewashed and papered. Division 12 house has had a new table and black- board. This house should be painted on the outside another year and on the inside as soon as possible. It also needs a new stove and floor.
.
31
There are some repairs needed on other houses in town making it necessary for the district to raise quite a sum for repairs if the houses are to be kept in the best shape not only for the interests of the schools ; but for the best interests of the town.
Respectfully submitted, ALICE O. F. YOUNG, ) School Board GEORGE L. DEMING, of
FRED C. PARDY, Cornish.
