REPORT OF TRUSTEES OF PUBLIC LIBRARY OF WINCHESTER.
The trustees of Winchester Public Library, in making this their seventh annual report to the town, desire to remind the voters that this institution is gaining in value year by year and is an immense fac- tor in the education of the citizens of Winchester.
We have added to the library during the year about two hundred dollars' worth of books. Among others, the Warner Library of the World's Best Liter- ature consisting of thirty volumes; a valuable encyclo- pedia; and a complete set of Harper's Monthly.
The reading room was opened the first of May. The list of Magazines includes the Century, Harper's Monthly, Scribner, The Cosmopolitan, St. Nicholas, Harper's Weekly, and several others.
In June the young ladies held a lawn party for the benefit of the reading room. The proceeds, thirty- seven dollars, ($37.00) were placed in the hands of the trustees. It has been decided to use this money to complete and furnish the fire place in the north read- ing room, which to the present time has been in an unfinished state. Owing therefore to the enterprise of the young ladies, and the generous patronage of the public, the reading room . will be rendered much
83
more attractive. The room will be open every library day in the afternoon, and till nine o'clock in the even- ing. We intend in the early sping to place a number of new and popular books upon our shelves, which we trust will be much enjoyed by the public. We trust that during the coming year the reading room and the library itself will be more generally used, and there- fore more appreciated and enjoyed by the citizens of Winchester.
Respectfully submitted by the trustees.
