Y., as inspector in Kings County Penitentiary from 1870 to 1878: returned to Milton in 1878 and remained there since, living on the farm and in the house where his father was born, in 1801. Served as tax collector six years. Member of the House in 1870.

Born in Oldham, Lanchashire, Eng., Sept. 6, 1854, and came to America at the age of 3, and lived in Lawrence and Exeter before coming to Manchester. Took a promi- nent part in the ten-hour movement. Is a Red Man and Son of St. George. Served as selectman 2 years. Was al- ways a Republican.


WARDWELL, GRANVILLE, Win- chester. Republican, Congregationalist, commercial traveller. married; age, 55. Born in Vermont, March 4, 1837, al- though the home of his parents was then in Nelson. Received a common school education and has resided in Winchester since 1872. Member of tlie House in 1889. He has also figured as a humorous lecturer and is one of the brightest and wittiest men on the pub- lic platform. Formerly a Democrat.


WARNER, WILLIAM P., Newton. Republican, Universalist, carriage paint- er, married; age, 32. Born in Houlton, Me., May 22, 1860. Left home at the age of 12 to earn his own living, and landed in Portsmouthi alone, and finally lived in Atkinson, Plaistow, Newton, South Hampton and Merrimac, Mass., where he learned his trade and worked at it. ten years. Was prevented from entering Tufts Divinity School by ill healthı. Has served as supervisor and on the board of education.

WEBSTER, CHARLES H., Enfield. Democrat, Universalist, proprietor of the Webster house and farmer, mar- ried; age, 47. Born in Enfield, March 1, 1845, educated there and always re- sidled there. Has served as selectman, on the board of education, and as town treasurer. Was always a Democrat.

Edu- cated there, at Gilead, Me., and at North Waterford, Me., high school. Served 6 months in Co. A., 17th N. H. Vols., and 10 months in Co. I., 1st N. H. H. A. Member of John E. Has served as councilman and alderman, be- ing president of former body. Active in church work, 17 years member Con- gregational church and is now vestry- man in Episcopal church. Is a promi- nent Mason and has held high offices in lodge and commandery. Present bus- iness was established by his father in 1863. Has done excellent literary work of a local and historical nature.

Began the study of medicine at McGill University, Montreal, and grad- uated from Dartmouth Medical Col- lege in 1879, and lias practiced his pro- fession in Nashua 13 years. Has served as city physician 3 years, on board of health 4 years, common coun- cil 3 years, alderman 2 years. Is a Mason, and was always a Republican.


WOODS, BENJAMIN S., Nashua, Ward 8. Republican, Baptist, grocer, married; age, 47. Born in Tyngsboro, Mass., May 28, 1845. Served 3 years in the Sth N. H. Vols., and was in all of its marches and battles. Is promi- nent in the G. A. R., and for 5 years was president of the 8th N. H. Veteran Association. Has been engaged in the grocery business since 1871. Was burn- ed out in 1888. Has served in the city council, and was always a Republican.
