They went to Eau Claire, Wis., where he was engaged in extensive lumber business until 1872, when he rem. to Olin, Jones county, Ia., and in 1882 to Maxwell, Story county, Ia., still following the lumber business. He was a man of strong personality, and a leader in church and public affairs. He was mayor of the town at the time of his death, being struck down by a bullet fired by an insane man, 1887, Oct. 22, aged 60.
