The history of the Dudley family in this country is, to a great extent, fragmentary, but in some lines it is quite complete.


ROBERT DUDLEY was a captain in the wars under Queen Elizabeth, and was killed in battle, a comparatively young man.


THOMAS, son of Capt. Robert DUDLEY, was b. in England in 1576. He came to Massachusetts at an early period and was Governor in 1634, 1640, 1645, and 1650. He was Deputy Governor for thir- teen years.
