SCRIBNER.
The immigrant ancestor of the New Hampshire Scribners was JOHN SCRIVENER (as the name was then spelled). He came from Kent, Eng-

land, several years before 1652, and settled in Hampton, N. H. He af- terwards removed to Dover, settling there in March, 1652. He d. at Dover Oct. 2, 1675. He was the owner of large tracts of land and was a man of much influenec in the community. His will, dated Nov. 27, 1674, mentions his wife, MARY, and his children then living. His son, John, who is believed to have been at that time eighteen years of age, was named as executor of his will, subject to the approval of his over- seers, Elder William Wentworth and Lieut. Peter Coffin. His children mentioned in his will were:
