The original Kennard Building, its six stories ranging 96 feet upward to dominate the Elm Street business district, and, indeed, much of the city, was Manchester's finest commercial struc- ture from its erection in 1892 until its destruc- tion by fire only 10 years later. It contained 120 stores, offices and rooms. The Mechanics Savings Bank has occupied the Mechanic Street corner since the structure was rebuilt in 1903.
