CAMPBELL, JESSE-Enlisted from Henniker, N. H., December 17, 1777 for three years, joining the army under Washington and was in the battle of Monmouth, N. J., June 28, 1778 ; (History of Henniker, N. H., P. 183). Also P. 609, Vol. 15, of the Revolutionary Rolls. He removed to Claremont after the war and settled in the north part of the town and died there, December 11, 1835, aged 75 years. He and the following (John) were brothers.
CAMPBELL, JOHN-Enlisted on July 5, 1777, at the Ticonderoga Alarm. Served eight days. ( Henniker History, P. 181). Was also in Wyman's company of Prescott Regiment, Mass. militia as from Henniker, in September 1775 .; (15-745). He also removed to Claremont after the war, and died May 17, 1831, aged 72.
CHAFFIN, DAVID-Was a Revolutionary soldier from Ashburnham. Mass. Died in Claremont, July 25, 1838, aged 77 years :. :

CONANT, AMOS Corp'l-Was in the Claremont company to re-enforce Ticonderoga, June 27th, to July 8th ; (15-27). June Ist, 1778 paid ter. pounds toward "hiring Coto of Continental troops," also helped along with artillery in April, '77, at the evacuation of Ticonderoga : ( 16-606). COTTON, REV .- Samuel-Chaplain of the First New Hampshire Regiment commanded by Col. Joseph Cilley. Enlisted April 9, 1777, discharged August 7, 1777 ; (17-266). He was the first settled minister of Litchfield, N. H., being ordained in 1765 and dismissed in 1781 or 1784. He died in Claremont November 25, 1819, aged 82; (Lawrence, N. H. Churches. DEXTER, DAVID-Was Captain in Col. Leppett's Regt. for oue year, they being a part of the Rhode Island Continental Line. Col. Dexter as he was called, died in Claremont, June 4th, 1829, aged sixty-four.

DUSTIN, MOODY-First Lieut. in William Scott's Company, Cilley's Reg't Nov. 7, 1776 from Litchfield ; (14-558). Died in Claremont, August 11, 1810, aged 68.
DEAN, LEMUEL-Eulisted in John House's company from Plainfield, N. H., at the age of 17 ; (14-608). Died in Claremont, October 2, 1822. Aged 61 years.
DICKINSON, ASHBEL-Eulisted in Capt. Joseph Taylor's company of volunteers, in Bedel's Regiment. His age was stated as 24 and residence Claremont. The pay roll shows him to have received £5, 6s 8d.
DOWNS, JABEZ-For many years a resident of Claremont. Died in that towu, but later the body was removed to Concord, N. H. ( For particulars write Hon. Horace A. Brown of Concord).

ELLIS, BARNABAS Lt .- Was First Lieutenant of the Claremont company which went to Ticonderoga in June, 1777 ; also in Capt. Walker's company from July, 1777, to September, 1777. Served six days with horse in the searching party of Jeremiah Spencer, August, 1780; (11-376) (15-26-143) (17-249). He was one of the first settlers of the town ; as early as 1767-8, and died there Jure 26, 1838, aged 93 years.

HIBBARD, AUGUSTINE REV .- Eulisted Aug. 4th. 1777, served as Regimental Chaplain according to the rolls of Hobart's Regt ; (15-142). From this he appealed ; claiming to have served as Brigade Chaplain, the claim was allowed and he was paid the difference between that of Reg'tl and Brigade Chaplain ; (17-279). Was also in the service May 30, 1776 ; (8-219). He married Eunice, daughter of Col. Samuel Ashley, Jan. 7, 1777. Was the se- cond settled minister of the Congregational church in Claremont, being install- ed Oct. 4, 1774 ; dismissed Dec. 28, 1785. HUBBARD, GEORGE-Born in Ellington, Conn., Nov. 30, 1739 ; lived in Tolland, Conn., and Claremont. Was Ensign of Sage's Conu. State regi- ment in the third company of the third battallion, from June 20, to Dec. 20, 1776, and First Lt. of the Second Conn., from Jan. 1, 1777, to December of the same year. Removed to Claremont and died there. April 16, 1818, aged 79 years. Was great-grandfather of Isaac Hubbard Long and Col. Charles H. Long, both residents of Claremont.
HUBBARD, LEMUEL Ensign-Was in Capt. Oliver Ashley's company March 15th, 1776 ; (14-297). Later in Wyman's Regt. at Mt. Independence. Nov. 5, 1776 ; (14-463).
HUTCHINSON, THOMAS-Was from Rindge, N. H. Born in Ashby. Mass., 1751, married in 1771, Molly Fitch of Ashby and Rindge. Served seven months in Capt. Phillip Thomas' company, and was at Bunker Hill. He enlisted again in 1777 and served three years in Capt. Nathan Hale's company. and was a sargeant at the close of the war. Second N. HI. Regt. ; (11-377).

JACKSON, MOSES-Served in the war as servant for Maj. Draper for one year, then. as private through the war. He removed to Claremont from Washington, N. H., and died there, July 23. 1824, at the age of sixty-two.

KIBLING, JOHN .- Served from Ashburnham, Mass., resided in Clare- mont several years being taxed from 1790 to 1794 inclusive, and two or more children were born in this town.
KIDDER, STEPHEN-Enlisted July 21, 1777, in Walker's Company of Hobart's regiment. Served to Sept. 23, 1777; (15-144). Also in Capt. Joseph Taylor's Company as from "Wethersfield," Vt.
KILBURN, JOHN-Born in Morristown, N. J., 1736 : (was by relation a nephew of John Kilburn of Walpole, N. H., the celebrated Indian fighter). He settled first in Hebron, Conn., where he married Hannah Sumner, Sept. 25, 1746 ; (She was a daughter of Dr. Thomas Sumner and a sister of Benjamin Sumner). Born April 23, 1730. From Hebron they removed to Colchester, Conn., where they resided a few years and where he represented the town in 1754. He was a soldier in the northern army under Sir William JJohnson, from whom he received a commission in 1755. Was attached to Col. William's Regiment when that officer with 1000 men, assisted by Hendrick the Mohawk chief and 200 Indians, gave battle to the French troops near Lake George, in which engagemeat Lt. Kilburn was wounded and Col. Williams killed. Dis- keau, the French Commander, was also wounded. In May, 1756, Kilburn was commissioned Lieutenant by Gov. Fitch of Connecticut. He removed from Colchester to Surry, N. H., and later, about 1769 to Claremont. He signed the "Association Test" in May, 1776, and was enlisted to serve in the

army when he died. He was buried in Claremont, and a small slate stone in- scribed as follows marks his final resting place :
LIEUT. JOHN KILBURN, Died September 14th, 1776, Aged 50 years. "A wise and virtuous man."
They had only one son, John, Born Feb. 2, 1772.
KINGSBURY, SANFORD Major .- Served as captain and major in the Conn. militia for which he was pensioned October 29, 1832. He removed to Claremont about 1784 and was prominent in town affairs. Served as selectman, representative and member of the Governor's Council. Also filled various other important offices. Died Nov. 12, 1833 ; aged 92.
KINGSLEY, ALPHEUS .- Recruited April 12, 1778, at the age of six- teen, receiving L. 20 bounty ; (14-598), in Capt. Wait's Company, Cilley's Regiment, Sullivan's Brigade. Received also £6 bounty from the state ; (14-599.)
KNIGHT, AMAZIAH .- In the Ticonderoga company, June to July 8, 1777 ; (15-27). Died Jan. 14, 1835 ; aged 89.
KIRTLAND, GIDEON Capt .- This name is spelled Caterling ; (16-236). Kirkland (16-502), but is the same person as the above whose gravestone re- cords "Died April 18th, 1805, aged 74 years." He enlisted in July 1779, for one year for which he received the sum of L. 60.

LANE, SAMUEL. - "A Revolutionary Soldier" according to a gravestone in the old cemetery at West Claremont. There is no date of death ; was born in South Hadley, Mass ; (did not go from Claremont).
LAMBERTON, OBED .- Served in the army from Connecticut and was at New York when that city was taken by the British and was taken prisoner. At the close of the war he removed to Plainfield, N. H., and resided there un- til late in life when he removed to Claremont and resided with his son. He died in Claremont, Oct. 13, 1830, aged 84.
LAYNES, DAVID. - (Think this is meant for Lane or Lynds). Was in the service May 30, 1776; (8-219). Also in Capt. Estabrook's Company, Bedell's Regiment, Jan. 1776 ; (14-263).

SPAFFORD, MOSES-Seargent in Capt. Oliver Ashley's company, from Sept. 21, to Oct. 21, 1777 ; (15-371). Born in Georgetown, Mass., 1732; was, with David Lynde the first settler of the town, on what is now known as the. Leland or Burns place. He died later than Sept. 16, 1819, when he deeded his farm to his grand-son, Cyrus Jones.
SPENCER, JEREMIAH-Seargt., Ensign, Lieut. Enlisted as Seargt. in Capt. Oliver Ashley's company, June, 1777, served to July 8th ; (15-27). Was appointed Ensign in Col. Hercules Mooney's regiment for service in R. I., on June 23d, 1779 ; (15-654). In August, 1780, was lieutenant of the militia and was instrumental in the capture of Buel and Johns, two British lieutenants who were supposed to be spies ; an account of which is given in his petition for pay in that servire ; (11-375) (16-541).
STEARNS, ASA -Born in Worcester, Mass., July 30th, 1758. Enlisted in Col. Ward's Massachusetts regiment the day after the battle of Bunker Hill. Was with the Americans in the battle of Long Island in 1776; was also in the battle of White Plains. Served 20 months in Col. Ward's regiment and then joined, May 6th, 1777. Capt. William Scott's company of Col. Stark's regi- ment ; (14-614). He was at the surrender of Burgoyne; also in the battle of Monmouth, and with Gen. Sullivan at Wyoming. Discharged December, 1781, and went to sea in a privateer. Afterward returned and settled in Clare- mont, where he was married to Lucy Cady of Weathersfield, Vt., March 25, 1784. He afterward lived in Weathersfield, Cavendish, and several other towns of Vermont. His wite died in Benson, Vt., Aug., 1825, and he then removed to Chazy, N. Y., where he died, Feb. 2. 1852. He also served from Clare- mont four days in the searching party ; (11-376) (Bond's Watertown, p.573) .
STEARNS, SAMUEL-Born in Worcester, 1754. Enlisted in Ward's regiment. Married Thankful Raymond. Died 1840. Resided in Claremont for several years ; ( Bond's Watertown, p. 571).
SPRAGUE, JOHN Searg't-From May 7, 1777, to June 21, 1777, in Bellow-' regiment, which went to re-enforce the Northern Continental Army at Ticonderoga ; (15-9). Came to Claremont about 1770, and died there, in 1843, aged 97. Was great-grandfather to Francis F. Haskell.
SPENCER, JOHN-Enlisted July 21, 1777 in Walker's company, Ho- bart's regiment. Served to Sept. 23, 1777 ; (15-145) also four days in the searching party of August, 1780 ; (11-376).
SPENCER, REUBEN-Was in the service May 30, 1776, (8-219) having enlisted in 1775 in Capt. Robert Oliver's company of Col. Reed's regiment. On Dec. 17, he received orders to march from Claremont to Winter Hill, where he arrived on Dec. 24th. In February, 1776, was ordered on guard, and when relieved, accidently fell and injured his knee on a sharp stone. He continued

in the service, however, until Dec. 31, 1776. He suffered greatly with his limb and doctored with many in hopes of a cure. Finally, on Dec. 15, 1783, ha had his leg taken off at the thigh, at an expense of forty pounds. The whole is graphically described in his account made in Jannary, 1784 ; (16-465- 6-7-8). He was pensioned from Jan. 1, 1777, to July 31, 1788 ; (16-331). He is said to have been a very ingenious man and made a wooden leg which very few could tell by its use from a genuine limb. He removed late in life to Pennsylvania, and died there.

SPOONER, JAMES-Credited to Claremont by "Gilmore's Bennington." Enlisted July 21, 1777, served to Sept. 23 ; (15-145).
STEARNS, DANIEL-Enlisted at the same time as his brother, Asa, in the same company ; aged 21. After the war removed to Cornish, N. H., aud afterward to Newport, N. H., where he died, May 4th, 1849. Discharged April 30th, 1780 ; (Kidder's 1st N. H. Regt.) Did not die in service, as stated by Kidder's N. H. Regt. ; (p. 571, Boud's Watertown).
STEARNE, THOMAS Dr .- Was surgeon's mate of Col. Bellows' regi- ment, which went, Sept. 21, 1777, to re-enforce the Northern Continental Ar- my at Saratoga, under Gates. Was discharged, Oct. 21 ; (15-367-72). Was also in Spencer's scouting party six days with horse ; (11-376). Dr. Stearne was born in Worcester, Mass., March 7. 1744-5, a son of Capt. Thomas Stearne ; ( p. 560, Boud's Watertowu). After the war he removed to Wind- sor, Vt., where he died, Nov. 24. 1816, aged 72. He was a prominent Free Mason and a charter member of Hiram Lodge No. 9, of Claremont, in 1798
