Wards, Streets, Avenues, Alleys, Etc.
WARDS.
The city of Trenton is divided into fourteen wards, which wards are subdivided into precincts or districts for the purpose of elec- tion of officers. There are 71 voting districts in the city.
The city, in 1837, contained two wards, known as East ward and West ward.
In 1851 South Trenton was an- nexed to the city and the Third and Fourth wards created. Two years later the Fifth ward was set off from the First, and in 1855 the Sixth ward was created by annexing Lamberton. The Seventh ward was set off from the Second ward in 1867.
The city continued to increase in population, and in 1888 Cham- bersburg and Milham were an- nexed to the city. The former added the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh wards to the city, the latter the Eighth.
In 1898 the borough of Wilbur was added, making the Twelfth ward, and in 1899 a redistrict- ing of the city created the Thir- teenth ward from part of the Seventh. The Fourteenth ward was created by the annexation of a part of Ewing township in 1900.
The wards of the city of Tren- ton are bounded as follows:
FIRST WARD.
Begins in the middle of War- ren street, at the Assanpink Creek, and runs thence north- erly, through North Warren street to East Hanover; thence through East Hanover easterly to the Delaware and Raritan canal; thence through said canal northerly, to Perry street; thence through Perry street easterly, to Clinton avenue; thence through Clinton avenue northerly, to Bel- videre railroad; thence down said railroad southeasterly, to Assanpink creek; thence down the said creek the several courses thereof, southwest and westerly, to Warren street and place of beginning.
SECOND WARD.
Begins in the middle of War- ren street, at the intersection of the Assanpink creek; thence
northerly, through the middle of North Warren street to the cen- tre of the feeder of the Dela- ware and Raritan canal; thence westerly along the middle of said feeder and the several courses thereof, to a point in the line dividing lands now or for- merly of Thomas Cadwalader and E. J. C. Atterbury, or at the intersection of Overbrook ave- nue, if extended; thence south, through the middle of Over- brook avenue to the middle of the Delaware river; thence southeasterly, along the middle of said river to the Assanpink creek, and thence to place of beginning.
THIRD WARD.
Begins in the middle of War- ren street, at the Assanpink creek, and runs through Assan- pink creek easterly; to Delaware and Raritan canal; thence south- erly, through said canal to
Broad street; thence up the centre of Broad street to the centre of the New Jersey Steel and Iron Company's railroad; thence along said railroad to centre of Lamberton street, to centre of Warren street, to place of beginning.
FOURTH WARD.
Beginning in the middle of the Assanpink creek, at the intersec- tion of the centre line of War- ren street, southerly along the centre line of Warren street to Lamberton street; thence, south- erly, following the centre line of Lamberton street, to the centre line of the Trenton Iron Com- pany's railroad; thence easterly and northerly, along the centre line of said railroad, to centre line of South Broad street: thence southeasterly, along centre line of South Broad street, to middle of Delaware and Raritan canal: thence southerly, along the mid- dle of said canal, to centre line of Cass street; thence westerly, along centre line of Cass street and continuing to middle of the Delaware river; thence up the middle of the Delaware river to point directly west from the centre of the Assanpink creek,
