SALAMANDER SAFES
WARRANTED DRY AS WELL AS FIRE PROOF.
The attention of the Public is respectfully solicited to the following Certificates :-
TEST NO. 12 .- My store in Centreville, La., with its contents was consumed by fire on the evening of the 24th ult., and my Books and Papers were preserved in one of RICH & CO.'S IMPROVED PATENT SALAMANDER SAFES, which I purchased of Mr. Isaac Bridge, of this city. The Safe was taken from the ruins red hot and could not be operated upon until it had stood several hours cooling. Many gentlemen were present at the time of cutting the door open (for the lock could not be turned) all of whom were surprised on finding the contents uninjured and but slightly changed in appearance. Having, at an expense of only $60, saved books and papers worth several thousands, by possessing one of Rich & Co.'s Snfes, I cheerfully add my testimony to that heretofore furnished by others who have protited by the fire proof qualities of the article.
NEW ORLEANS, March 23, 1847. E. R. BLACKWELL.
TEST No. 10 .- Certificate from Mr. Silas C. Field, of Vicksburg, Mississippi .- On the morning of the 14th ult., the store owned and occupied by me in this city, was, with its contents, entirely consumed by fire. My stock of goods consisted of oil, rosin, lard, pork, sugar, molasses, liquors, and other articles of a combustible nature, in the midst of which was one of Rich's Improved Patent Salamander Safes, which I purchased last October, of Mr. Isaac Bridge, New Orleans, and which contained my books and papers. This Safe was red hot, and did not cool sufficiently to be opened until 16 hours after it was taken from the ruins. At the expiration of that time it was unlocked, when its contents proved to be entirely uninjured, and not even discoloured. I deem this test sufficient to show that the high reputation enjoyed by Rich's Safes is well merited. S. C. FIELD. VICKSBURG, MISS., March 9th, 1846.
GREAT FIRE IN NEW-YORK, JULY 19, 1845.
The undersigned purchased of A. S. Marvin, No. 138} Water-street, one of Rich's Improved Patent Sala- mander Safes, which was in our store, No. 54 Exchange Place. The store was entirely consumed in the great confingration on the morning of the 19th inst. The Safe was taken from the ruins 52 hours after, and on open- ing it, the books and papers were found entirely uninjured by fire, and only slightly wet-the leather on some of the books wns parched by the extreme heut. (Signed,) RICHARDS & CRONKHITE. NEW-YORK, 21st July, 1845.
Reference made to other certificates and to upwards of 1100 Merchants, Cashiers, Brokers, and Officers of Courts and Counties, who have Rich's Safes in use.
The above Safes are finished in the neatest manner, and can be made to order at short notice, of any size and pattern, and fitted to contain Plate, Jewelry, &c. Prices from $50 to $500 each. For sale by

All residents of New York should bear in mind, that the Streets above (north of ) Twelfth Street, are divided by Avenue 5th, into East and West -; as East Thir- teenth-West Thirteenth, &c. Some have supposed Broadway to be the dividing line ; but it is a mistake.

THE ALMANAC, it will be observed, includes six months of the present year (1847) and the whole of 1848.

WARRANT IN EVERY PARTICULAR,
Porcelain Knobs for Locks, Shutter and French Window Knobs, Front Door Sets and Bell Pulls, Inside Bell Levers, Mouth Pieces for Speaking Tubes, Finger Plates, &c., of nearly
EIGHTY DIFFERENT PATTERNS.
It is about three years since the Subscriber first introduced this new and beautiful article in this country, and latterly improvements have been made, which obviate every objection which could have been urged ; the roses are protected, so that there is no possibility of breakage; the spindles are made full size, so that they will suit any lock. Their advantages over every other description are manifold.
Ist. They are as durable as metal, the composition being harder than brass.
2d. They are more pleasing to the eye, silver-plating not excepted.
3d. They require no cleaning, thereby saving labour, and the wear of locks; neither is there any soiling of doors or shutters, as with all other knobs, the shanks and roses being composed of the same material as the knob.
4th. Their beautiful colours remain unchanged, neither weather nor climate affecting them. 5th. The Lock Knobs have adjusting spindles, so that they will suit doors of any thickness with the nicest accuracy.
With these advantages, they are offered 333 per cent. lower in price than any other manu- facture, the great demand for them proving their superiority and cheapness.
