WILLIAM BURNET Esq Captain General and Governor In Cheif of the provinces of New York New Jersey and Territories Depending thereon in america and vice admiral of the Same &c In Council
AN ORDINANCE
For Establishing a Court of Common pleas and a Court of Gen- eral Sessions of ye peace in Dutchess County in ye Province of New York
Whereas in the Establishments of
the Courts of Common pleas and the General Sessions of the peace hitherto in the County of Dutches, on the East Side of Hudsons River, Over against the County of Ulster, there has been no Courts of Common pleas or General Sessions of the peace Erected and Established to be holden and Kept within the sd , County, but ye Inhabitants of ye Same County have Some time formerly been Subjected to the Jurisdiction of the Justices of ye aforesaid County of Ulster; for Remedy whereof for the Future; I have thought fit by and with the Advice and Consent of his Ma- jesties Council for the province of New York, and by Virtue of ye power and authority unto me given and Granted Under the Great Seal of Great Britain, and do hereby Erect Establish and Ordain, that from henceforward there shall be held and Kept at Pogh- keepson neare the Center of the said County, a General Sessions of the peace on the third Tuesday in May and ye third Tuesday in October, Yearly and every Year for ever;which General Sessions of the peace

in Every Sessions shall not Continue for Longer than Tow Days but may finish the Bussiness of the Sessions possibly in one day and that From hence forward thare shall be held and Kept at Poghkeepson near ye, Center of the said County a Court of Common pleas to begin the next Day after the said Courts of Generall Sessions of the peace Terminates, and then only if Bussiness require to hold and Continue for two Days next following and no Longer With the Like power And Jurisdictions as other Courts of Common pleas in other Countyies within the province of New York have Used

To all Constables and other officers as well within the said Coun- ty as Else Where Within the Collony of New York to Whome the Execution hereof doth or may Concerne GREETING Whereas I have Received Information & Charge against one Rushell Wood Lately Come from Long Island and Leiveing between Bedford & Rey In the Province of New York Calls himSelf a Carpenter a Short Likely man full faced Brown Complextioned & Wares a Brown Wigg a Long Island man by birth Who is Charged be- fore me to be a Dageros person and hath Brocken out of the Cos- todey of the High Sheriff Jacobus Van Den Bogart In Dutches County in an Action of tow hundred Pound Damage the 5th of September and notwithstanding seaverall Endeavours for Appre- hensions of him he hath not as Yett been apprehended but hath Withdrawn himself & fled Lately from our County These are there- fore in his majesties name to Command You and Every of You to make diligent Search Within Your Seaverall Precincts & dis- tricts for the said Rushell Wood and to make heu & Cry after him from Town to Town and from County to County & and that as well by horsemen as footmen according to Law and if You shall find the said Rushell Wood that then You do Carry him before Some one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace Within the County or place Whare he shall be taken to be dealt Withall according to Law and to Send Word to the Sherriff of Dutches County of his Presoner so taken that he may have him againe and may be Dealt Withall according to Law aforesaid Here of faile nott at Your perrill

KNOW ALL MEN By these Presents that we the Indians here under writen do of our free will And to do Justice to all whom it doth or may concern hereby declare testifie and attest that To our certain knowledge Such Indians In thare Life time Named Viz Aracogh and Guttecgtenonck and Rackawoounck did a bout one or two and Twenty Years agoo Sell unto Late Mr Robert Sanders, for himself and others a Certain tract of Land in Ulster county begining at a fall in the river called the wall kill or Palls Creek the fall Called In the Indian Aratcooke and runing Northerly on the East side of the Palls Creek Eight Mills or thare abouts untill it comes to a place called In the Indian Katkawaneak and from thence on a Due East Line four miles Into the Woods and from thence on a paralel Line with the Palls Creek untill a Due West Line Shall touch the aforesaid falls where it begun (And further that) the aforenamed Indians hass recived Satisfaction for the said piece of Land which to the best of our Knowledge was never sold before nor Since to any body Else witness our hands and Seals att Pockepsink this Sixteenth day of Nouember In the Eight year of
