SHEPARD'S SUPERIOR RANGES.
CHAS. J. SHEPARD'S Desirable Cooking RANGES,
EIGHT SIZES. THE EXTRA LARGE FOR HOTELS AND DINING SALOONS LESSER SIZES FOR BOARDING HOUSES, And Four Sizes expressly for FAMILY USE, Consuming far less Fuel than any other Range, com- pleting all cooking in the most desirable manner. Salesroom, 242 Water St., N.Y.
An examination of Shepard's Superior Ranges will satisfy all, that nothing is offered to " equal them in style, economy, efficiency or durability. Their economy is unquestionable. The cost of a Range will be amply repaid in the great saving of fuel. The superior Baking and other culinary operations, by their perfec- tion alone, would also save much that is now wasted.
These Ranges are extra strong and durable, no weight of metal or expense has been spared to make them com- plete.

Does it Bake and Roast to perfection ? are the first inquiries.

TESTIMONIALS.
From R. M. Stratton, Novelty Iron Works, No. 167 East 18th Street. New York, 3d Mo. 13,1858.
Charles J. Shepard-
Esteemed Friend-During the past 12 years, I have used in my kitchen three different styles of Ranges, and I do not hesitate to say that thine, for all culinary purposes, is a far better article than any we have here- tofore used. In Baking, it cannot be excelled. In Boiling, many facilities are experienced. In Roasting, in a tin oven in front, it has performed that part as well as any other. The amount of fuel consumed in performing the same work is fully one-third less than any other Range ever used in my family, and it is so simple in its arrangement that I cannot see how any person can mistake its use.
Very respectfully, R. M. STRATTON.
From the Darcy House, Jersey City.
Jersey City, March 5, 1858. Mr. Chas. J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-We have had one of your largest size Cooking Ranges in use at our Hotel, (Darcy House,) Jersey City, and find it to answer all our expectations, and would recommend it as being one of the best Ranges in use. Yours, TAYLOR & SYLVESTER.
From Wm. Hickok, Esq., Minnesota Mining Co. New York, Feb. 17, 1858. Mr. Charles J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-I have never had any convenience for cooking which has pleased me as well as your Range.
It consumes much less coal than I had supposed pos- sible, and the ovens furnish the most finished Baking. Either for Baking, Roasting, Broiling, or any kind of family cooking, it is very complete.
Yours, truly, WM. HICKOK.
From H. B. Scholes, Esq., Iron Founder. Bedford Av., cor. Ross St., Brooklyn, March 2, 1858. Mr. Charles J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-Your Range has given perfect satisfac- tion. I can recommend it as a good family Range, com- bining simplicity, economy and durability, and one that servants can manage. It has never spoiled a dinner, and bakes bread to perfection.
Very respectfully, H. B. SCHOLES.
From Chas. S. Hine, Esq., Stamford, Conn. 13 Bowery, N. Y.
Mr. Charles J. Shepard-
Dear Sir- Your Range exceeds the high character which you gave it when I purchased. Nothing I have ever had has given my family such perfect satisfaction, or executed as much work with as little expense. It consumes far less fuel than any Range I ever had-half a ton of coal per month is amply sufficient. The Broil- ing and Roasting arrangements are very superior, and I think I never saw more finished baking even in a brick oven. You have the most perfect Cooking Range for family use ever offered.
Very respectfully, yours,
CHAS. S. HINE.
From David Syme, Sup't Public School No. 6. Brooklyn, March 9, 1858.
Mr. Charles J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-The Range has given, and continues to give, entire satisfaction. I find, after a trial of ten months, that you had not overrated its excellent qualities. Its fitness and efficien- cy are unquestionable.
You deserve great credit for supplying the public with an article so well adapted for culinary purposes, and at a price so reasonable.
Yours,
DAVID SYME.

SHEPARD'S RANGE TESTIMONIALS.
From Thomas B. Stillman, Esq., New York. Mr. Chas. J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-I shall not fear an appeal to any mem- bers of my family, who have had the privilege of using your Range, in verifying all that I have to say in regard to its merits.
For convenience, it excels any Range I have ever used, in the adjustment of the cooking utensils, and to the ovens as well as to the grates, in which you have made a great improvement.
In efficiency, your Range has no superior within the compass of my knowledge, both for the various kinds of cooking and for baking, for which it is superior.
In economy, I find a great advantage over any other Range I have ever seen-the consumption of fuel being far less than usual.
Yours, truly, THOMAS B. STILLMAN.
From Rev. P. J. Van Pelt, 73 Hammond St. New York, Feb. 23, 1859.
Mr. Chas. J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-It gives me pleasure to say, that [your Kitchen Range gives entire satisfaction.
Yours, P. J. VAN PELT.
" WEST'S HOTEL,"
Sandusky, Ohio, Dec. 29, 1858.
Chas. J. Shepard, Esq-
Dear Sir-Your Range has been in constant use in our hotel for four months, during which the State Fair was held at this place, when we cooked for over eight hundred persons.
It give us pleasure to state that it did its work ad- mirably.
Mr. Thos. Skank, our chief cook, who has been in the business for the past thirty years, says it is the best Range he ever saw ; it heats very quick, and does not get out of order. We are very much pleased with it.
Yours, respectfully, W. T. & A. K. WEST,
Proprietors.
From F. G. Berteau, Esq., Chicago.
Chicago, Jan 27, 1859.
Mr. Chas. J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-It gives me pleasure to certify that, for the last eighteen months, I have been using one of your Ranges. I have found it far superior to any I had used before. as to convenience for cooking ; and as to saving, it certainly consumes much less coal than any of the other Ranges I have used.
Yours,
F. G. BERTEAU,
Principal of an Institution for Young Ladies, Chicago, Illinois.
From David Drake, Esq., Lenox Fire Ins. Co. Hudson City, N. J.
Chas. J. Shepard, Esq .-
Dear Sir-The Range purchased of you has given entire satisfaction, consuming but about one ton of coal in fifty to sixty days-baking to a charm ; and the Roaster (which, by the way, is a great addition) gives us meats and poultry cooked in the old-fashioned style, instead of being baked in the side ovens, which, as all epicures know, is a very unsatisfactory method of cooking most meats, &c.
Very truly yours, D. DRAKE.
From " Sailors' Home," Cherry Street, Sailors' Home, New York, 23 Feb., 1859. Mr. Chas. J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-The Cooking Range you placed in the Sailors' Home, about four months ago, has been in con- stant use ever since, and permit us to say, that it has acted like a charm, and given entire satisfaction in every particular.
It has all the good qualities for which it is intended -and my wife (who has charge of the culinary depart- ment) desired me to say, that it consumes about one- third less coal than the one you removed, though of "the same size ; and it also Broils, Bakes, Roasts and Boils to perfection. She says it has no superior, and if you attempt to make any improvements in it you will spoil the whole.
Respectfully yours, ED. WALFORD, For RICHARDSON & WALFORD, Superintendents.
From G. W. Fordham, Chief Steward of the Collins Steamer "Adriatic."
March 1, 1858.
Mr. Chas. J. Shepard-
Dear Sir-After using one of your Superior Family Ranges for nearly a year, it gives me pleasure to state that its operation has always been very satisfactory. Having used previously several descriptions of Ranges, and after canvassing their merits, I have found that none of them possessed such an admirable combination of excellent and desirable qualities as is to be had in yours.
Your Range excels others in its simple construction, its casy management, in the convenient arrangement of the cooking utensils, in the two fine operating and large ovens, which well supply the place of the old- fashioned brick oven, and in the sliding fire-grate, which operates instantly and effectively in clearing the fire-place, without the usual annoyance of flying ashes.
But a more special and important advantage, one that housekeepers cannot fail to appreciate, is in the great economy of your Range. It certainly requires but very little fuel, and it is so constructed that it is not liable to get out of order.
You can, therefore, safely say, that you have the most economical and the finest operating Range ever used.
. Yours, GEO. W. FORDHAM,
Chief Steward Steamship Adriatic.
