Brooklyn Daily Times.

ESTABLISHED 1848.

( From the N. Y. Evening Telegram, February 2, 1880.)

No paper that has lived in a community for thirty- three years can be said to be without a history, with- out a title to respect, without a value as a measure of the social forces which animate and mould that com- munity. Were the " Brooklyn Daily Times" of to-day only what it was up to the period of ten years ago, it would be still well worthy of a place in a series of sketches on American journalism. It happens, how- ever, that no daily paper in this country has made more steady or more wonderful strides within the past ten years than the "Brooklyn Daily Times." Other journals date the era of their modern development to the American civil war. Since the excitement and in- flation of war times nearly all American newspapers have labored heavily, and not a few have gone down in their struggle to keep appearances up to the mark of vanished war circulations and flush times. The prosperity of the " Brooklyn Times" is upon a surer basis. The way in which it has kept pace with the remarkable growth of the Eastern District of Brook- lyn, in population and resources, is entertainingly told in the "Telegram's" article elsewhere. Brooklyn is to be congratulated upon having so flourishing a news- paper, and the circulation and patronage of the "Times " show that Brooklyn people appreciate the advantage of having a newspaper publisher who ade- quately reflects their enterprise.
