SCHOOL DISTRICTS.


The City originally constituted one school district, but as the same increased the old district has been divided and sub-divided, and there are now thirteen school districts within the city limits : viz :


No. 1. Comprises that portion of the 4th Ward bounded by Fulton street on the west, Sands street on the north, Bridge street on the east, and Myrtle avenue on the south.


No. 2. That portion of the 8th Ward lying south-westerly of the centre of 27th street.


No. 3. All that part of the 9th and 7th Wards contained within the following boundaries, viz : On the south by DeKalb avenue, on the west by Grand avenue as far south as Atlantic avenue, running thenee along Atlantic avenue westerly to Washington avenue, thence southerly along Washington avenue to Baltic street, thence easterly along Baltic street to the old Clove road, and thence southerly along the road to the City line, and thence along the line of the north- easterly boundary of the City to DeKalb avenue aforesaid.


No. 4. That part of the 9th and 11th Wards bounded as follows, viz : on the northeasterly side by the City line between Brooklyn and Williamsburgh, on the west by the Wallabout Bay and Washington avenue as far south as Myrtle avenue, thence easterly along Myrtle avenue to Grand avenue, thence southerly along Grand avenue to DeKalb avenue and easterly along DeKalb avenue to the City line.


No. 5. FIRE DISTRICTS.


First District-Bounded by Washington street, the East River, and Montague Place.


Second District-Bounded by Montague place, the East River, and Court street.


Third District-Bounded by Court street and Fulton avenue.


Fourth District-Bounded by Fulton avenue, and a line running to the Navy Yard wall, Nassau street.


Fifth District-Bounded by the last named line, the East River, and Washington street.


For the object of guiding the Firemen more correctly to the fire, the alarm bells are rung as follows :
