To any one destrous of purchasing French Burr Mill-Stones, we can state that last spring, William Tyack, of New York, made for us three pair of five feet six inch Burrs, which we have fully proved by a season work, and find them to be of the best quality. Mr. Tyack's manner of selecting and matching the blocks, hooping, barking, balancing, and otherwise finishing off his Burrs, particularly claimed our admiration.

Richmond, Va., Feb. 27, 1834. R. B. HAXALL & CO.

I have been a miller twenty-one years, and am now in the employment of Messrs. Richard B. Haxall & Co., of the Columbian Mills, city of Richmond. They run fourteen pairs of five and a half feet Burrs, some of which were made at the Penitentiary at Richmond, some in Baltimore, some in New York, and other places. Having proved them all, I find the three pair made by William Tyack, of New York, to be superior, on account of the quality and selection of the blocks, the workmanship, &c., and what is very important, they require but little balancing ; and from my experience, If I should want Burrs, I should certainly give T'yack the preference. Columbian Mills, Richmond, Feb. 18, 1834. OLIVER BLANKINSHIP.

I have been n miller thirty-six years, and Flour Inspector of the city of Richmond three years, and concur fully in all respects with Messrs. R. B. Hlaxall & Co., and Oliver Blankinship. Richmond, February 18, 1834. GEORGE B. NICHOLSON.

We hereby certify, that we have purchased from Mr. William Tyack, of New York, two pairs af French Burry, five and a half feet In diameter ; one pair we have used two seasons, the other one season. We feel it a pleasure, as well as an act of justice, to reconunend highly these Burrs to any milling establishment in this country, as we consider them fully equal, if not superior, to any we have ever used since engaged in the milling business-in which business one of the firin has been largely concerned nearly thirty years.

Petersburg, Va., Feb. 17, 1834.

J. B. KENDALL & CO.

I have been a miller twenty-one years, and seven years hend miller in the employment of J. B. Kendall & Co., Union Mills, Petersburgh, Va. I have used Burrs made at several different places, and I find the Burrs made by William Tyack, of New York, (two pairs,) to be superior to any I have ever used, in regard to the temper of the blocks, the workquanship, and so well balanced as to require nothing. This is an important im- provement in the Burr runner, as it will run much more steady than it will by putting on one side a heavy piece of metal to balance it. JAMES ALEXANDER.

103 Maiden 1. Wm. R. Goulding, Surg. Ins. Manuf., 35g Chatham

To be had by the dozen at the manufacturer's prices of the above named firms.

The principle of this Strop is anti-elastic, consequently it does not round the edge of the Razor. It con- sists of four sides, of different sharpening properties, viz: No. 1, The Hone, which is of ten times the power of the ordinary Hone, and almost instantly thins a dull edge. No. 2. A powerful sharpening property for removing the wirey edge left by the Hone. No. 3, A less powerful composition for gradually reducing the Razor to a fine edge. 'No. 4, Is merely the Calf Skin peculiarly prepared by the Maker, and expressly adapted to the pur- pose of perfecting the edge of the Razor.

Five minutes will be ample time for putting the dullest Razor in perfect order.

Manufactured by L. CHAPMAN, 102 William St., New- York.

LEG,

17 SECOND STREET, (NEAR THE BOWERY,) NEW YORK.

This description of ARTIFICIAL LEG derives its name from the celebrated MARQUIS OF ANGLESEY, by whom it has been adopted and worn since its first invention, by the Inte ingenious Mr. POTTs, of London, to whom the present artist was for eleven years a Pupil and Assistant.

The ANGLESEY LEG is PATENTED in ENGLAND, and differs RADICALLY and ESSENTIALLY from all other substitutes for an amputated limb. In Europe it is worn by Prince Ernest of Hesse Phillipstal, and by other Continental as well as British Noblemen and Naval and Military Gentlemen, who suffered in the late wars; also by several Ladies of distinction. It is allowed, by the most eminent European Surgeons, to be the nearest approach to Nature hitherto produced ; an opinion which, both as to its form and action, has been recently confirmed by the following distinguished Medical Gentlemen :-

DOCTOR MOTT, DOCTOR PAYNE, BEDFORD,

PATTISON,

DOCTOR PARKER, CHEESMAN, DOCTOR RODGERS, 4 STEVENS,

AND OTHERS OF THE PROFESSION IN THIS CITY.

And during the short time the artist has been in this country its advantages have been fully tested by a number of Ladies and Gentlemen of the highest respectability, who had previously used other substitutes, and whose evidence of the superiority of the ANGLESEY LEG must satisfy the most sceptical. In addition to which, the AMERICAN INSTITUTE, at their late Fair, awarded to Mr. S. a Silver Medal for the best specimen of Artificial Leg.

Among the many advantages which the ANGLESEY LEG possesses over all others, is the beautiful sim- plicity of its action (metallic springs being entirely dispensed with) ; the ease and comfort of the socket ; its lightness, and the admirable substitute for the Natural Tendon, which gives an elasticity to the step exactly similar to Nature, and is an actual assistance to the walker never yet attained in any other description of Artificial Leg.

Mr. B. considers it his duty to caution the public against being imposed upon by persons pretending to imitate the Anglesey Leg. Mr. S. introduced the article into this country, and the mechanical principle upon which the peculiarity of the Leg depends, is known only in the United States to himself.

Letters on business must be post-paid.

GRAVEL INFIRMARY, 70 NASSAU STREET. From the Washington Globe, March 29, 1842.

" At the request of one of our most estimable citizens, who informs us that he has been entirely cured of the gravel by using Dr. Lee's medicine, we publish the following for the benefit of all who are afflicted with the disease."

From the Brooklyn (New York) Annual Visitor for February 1842, by Doctor Martin K. Bridges. DOCT. LEE'S INFIRMARY FOR THE GRAVEL, 70 NASSAU STREET, N. Y.

It is from motives of real sympathy, that I refer to this establishment, aware as I am, that a vast amount of human suffering is endured from a want of knowledge that there is a remedy for this most painful and distreen- ing disease. Dr. S. H. P. LEz, the originator of the far-famed " Lee's New London Bilious Pills," is a Phy- sician of high reputation, and some thirty years practice, and could not be benefited by any remarks that I could make in his favor. Believing this complaint may be effectually subdued by the skill and experience of Dr. Lee, and knowing that in Brooklyn and on Long Island generally there are numbers who suffer more or lees from diseases of the kidneys and the kindred organs, I do most unhesitatingly recommend all such to the care of Doctor Lee, as above; and this is done without the knowledge of the Doctor, or solicitation from any source. M. K. B.

R . HEINISCH,

MANUFACTURER OF

PATENT TAILORS' SHEARS, BANKERS' SHEARS, TRIMMERS, LADIES' SCISSORS, &C., NEWARK, N. J.,

Respectfully announces to the citizens of New York, that Mr. George Tiemann, of 63 Chatham street, is appointed sole agent for the sale of the above articles, and will be fur- nished with a full supply of the different sizes and descriptions, and those, also, having the decided and important improvement of the flat screw, a very late addition to this celebrated article.

After the numerous premiums and splendid testimonials these articles have obtained from the Institutes in different parts of the United States, as well as from the unqualified approbation bestowed upon them wherever they have been introduced, it would be su- perfluous in R. Heinisch to recommend his manufactures on his own responsibility; he therefore offers the following extract from the report of the Franklin Institute of the city of Philadelphia, as corroborative testimony of their merits, and of the high repute with which they are viewed by men of talent, judgment, and experience :

"The Tailors' Shears patented and manufactured by R. Heinisch are beautifully made, exhibiting in the successive specimens gradual improvement to a perfect fit of the hand and a judicious disposition of the leverage; the committee consider that a great benefit has been conferred on a large class of operatives by the improvement of an article in incessant use, and therefore recommend these shears to special notice."

STEAM REFINED CONFECTIONERY.

Merchants who purchase CONFECTIONERY at wholesale, are respect- fully invited to inspect the assortment manufactured by the Subscriber, whose Candies, during a period of eleven years, have been tried in nearly every state in the Union, as well as in the West India Islands; and whether subjected to the rough treatment of a protracted inland transportation, or to the trying ex: halations from a ship's hold in a tropical climate, they have uniformly given satisfaction, and have proved themselves equal to .any manufactured in the States, and as cheap as any manufactured in the city.
