WAIT'S IMPROVED

JONVAL

TURBINE

MANUFACTURED AT THE

BAKER'S FALLS IRON MACHINE WORKS, SANDY HILL, WASHINGTON Co., N. Y., By P. H. WAIT, Hydraulic Engineer.

The "Jonval Turbine" was invented in France by a gentleman whose name it bears. Although it was not perfected by him, yet the hydraulic principle which he brought out has withstood all of the modifications and improvements of the wheel, unaltered and unchanged. It is a strong and durable wheel, not liable to get out of order, nor is it subject to any perceptible wear. They are bound with heavy wrought iron bands, which, with their peculiar shape, gives them great strength and durability.

Some of the qualities which recommend them, and give them preference over all other wheels, may be summed up as follows: First-Simplicity of construction. Second-Not liable to get out of order. Third-Best adapted to all positions, especially low heads. Fourth-They run with a steady, even speed, and will start with all the load they can carry. Fifth-As the water enters in a direct line of the wheel's rotation, we avoid the lateral pressure and friction against the curb to which other wheels are subject-hence they will give a greater amount of power, with the same quantity of water, than any other wheel ever invented.

OF ONONDAGA,

SYRACUSE, N. Y.

Organized 1860. Capital, $320,000.

GEO. F. COMSTOCK, President. . J. W. BARKER, Secretary. THOMAS MOLLOY, Treasurer.

This company is the lessee of all the salt property in the; Onondaga Salt Springs Reservation (with the exception of four Salt Fields), comprising 316 fine Salt Blocks owned by individuals, and 26 Solar or Coarse Salt Fields owned principally by incor- porated Companies, besides several mills for the manufacture of Dairy Salt. These works and fields are operated exclusively by the Company. Their production was nearly NINE MILLIONS BUSHELS in the season of 1865, and about the same amount will be manufactured the present year, 1866.

The product of three of the four fields above mentioned as not in the company, is contracted to it for the term of its organization ; thus making the SALT COM- PANY OF ONONDAGA virtually the sole dealer in, as well as the sole manu- facturer of, Onondaga Salt.
